every year, at about this time, I get a call from the vankirk girls… and I am always SO happy. one, it means that it’s time for our annual photo shoot… and two, I know that I am going to be able to spend some time with two of my favorite people on the planet. in 2011, lexie and payton’s mother, kristen, contacted me about doing a session with her girls. a lot of times, girls the ages that lexie and payton were at the time can be a little shy and reserved when getting photographed… but not these two! as soon as we met – pardon the camera pun – we just clicked. they were so much fun and wonderful to work with.. whether individually or together, they were giggly, goofy, lovely, and totally themselves in front of my lens. and because I know it will make them cringe, below is a photo from our first session :) if you’d like to take a trip down memory lane, all of our sessions are here, here, herehere, here, and here

in the years since, they have worked with us for some modeling and editorial jobs as well as our annual shoot together. one thing we can’t seem to get together is scheduling when it’s warm.. it seems that every year, once all of our schedules get aligned, it’s the coldest day of the year. but what I love about them is that there is never a complaint or even an acknowledgement.. we just start shooting and the weather doesn’t seem to matter. this year was no exception – we met at the inlet to shoot on the jetty and the wind was howling! I parked in the lot and soon after, the girls pulled up – payton was driving! of course she was.. they’re both old enough to drive, but this was the first time that their mother hadn’t driven and once again I was reminded of how quickly time passes. cute little girls grow into beautiful young women who drive.. and have boyfriends..and go to college (yikes!). but one thing that has never changed is the lovely nature of these two. lexie and payton are easily two of the kindest, funniest, and most genuine people I have ever met and I love them both so much. I think they already know this, but they are stuck with me…. senior portraits, sister sessions, their weddings and beyond – they’ve got a photographer, and friend, for life xoxoxox
