001there is something about a vow renewal that I always find extra special. when a couple has been together for a long time and choose to commit their lives and their love again, that’s pretty awesome. and when they include their kids? it’s perfect. I met krista and dan on the beach at ocean city on a beautiful, but breezy evening. this was not your average ocean wind… these were gusts that pelted you with sand and practically knocked you over. but you would never know the inclement conditions once dan saw krista walking down the sand to join him. their ceremony was one that spoke of a life that had been experienced together for years, side by side. there was laughter and happy tears as they read vows written with care and with love. then their kids joined them in a sand ceremony that would commemorate this day and everything that it meant to all of them. I had such a wonderful time with all of you and wish you many more years of happiness and love together!

01I may be biased, but I think that the little town that my family has called home for 5 generations is pretty wonderful. once you become a part of this community, you are family and it’s a pretty cool thing to be a part of. so when someone gets married here, that is actually from here, I know that I am in for a very special day indeed. when alyssa’s mother, kim, contacted me regarding her daughter’s wedding, we met at her beautiful home and she shared their plans with me. the venue was river house – a favorite of mine, and she went down the list of everyone involved and I was thrilled ~ this was going to be awesome! but it paled in comparison to when I actually met alyssa and nick… they are such a lovely couple who had beaten the odds of spending most of their relationship miles apart. even alyssa’s father shared during his welcoming toast that he thought their distance would make it more than difficult. but when you know, you know. when it’s meant to be, then nothing will get in the way. this day celebrated that love and so much more ~ friendship, family, and community. it was such an amazing day and I am so grateful that I was able to play a small part. I wish you all of the love and happiness that the world has to offer!

001lindsey and adam are the kind of couple that you just want to be around. from our first meeting in annapolis, it was clear that not only were they so amazing together, but that their energy invited everyone who met them in. when I got to baltimore and met lindsey in her suite, everyone was calm… but excited. the weather was perfect and from her window, lindsey could see the ceremony being set up. it was cute to catch her glancing outside here and there – she would smile, knowing that very soon, she would walk down the aisle to her love. as I met adam outside in the courtyard, I got a big hug and asked, ‘when do I get to see her?’, and we prepared for their first look. every time I shoot this, the first look is a little different. ~ sometimes it’s very emotional, others it’s playful, and almost always there is the shared excitement and anticipation of what’s to come. with lindsey and adam, it was all three… laughter, a few tears, and talking about their day so far. the ketubah signing was next which I always love – I love what it says, I love that it includes family and special friends, and I love that their commitment is really already made before the actual ceremony. as the festivities continued, lindsey and adam were always by each other’s sides – greeting friends, taking a few moments alone, and when they hit the dance floor, look out! this whole bunch, led by the bride and groom, had the reception party on from the first song until the very end. I had such a wonderful time with all of you and wish you a lifetime of happiness and love!

1I first met sarah and randy when they attended the wedding of one of my favorite couples, maggie and shane. I remember them cutting up the dance floor and just having a wonderful time together ~ so when sarah contacted me about their upcoming wedding, I was looking so forward to seeing everyone. well, I guess I should say their celebration, because sarah and randy had already gotten married but wanted to reaffirm their love and commitment with all of their friends and family. I have photographed several of these events and they always makes me smile – to see a couple get as excited as they were when they first said ‘i do’, is a really lovely thing to witness. and they were definitely excited.. as sarah walked down the dock to see randy for the first time that day, they were both so happy and looking forward to the day ahead. I loved their ceremony.. portions out of one of my favorite books, ‘the alchemist’ were read – some pretty perfect passages for a day like this. and as they sealed forever (again!) with a kiss, everyone applauded as the sun filtered in from the bay. one of my favorite parts of the day were when sarah and randy facetimed with sarah’s grandparents after the ceremony – they had a little difficulty figuring out where the camera was which had all of us laughing, but their excitement and happiness for their granddaughter and randy was clear. sarah and randy, even though we only spent a couple of hours together, I loved every moment spent with you and all of your people. I wish you a lifetime of love, happiness, and dancing!

001the first time that I met tiffanie and jason, it was for their engagement session on chincoteague. as I was walking to our agreed meeting spot, I noticed a couple sitting on a bench, snuggled up a little bit, and laughing easily and loudly enough for me to hear them. in my head, I silently hoped that this was my couple and was so happy that when they looked up and waved, that it was. instead of the introductory shaking of hands, I was welcomed with big hugs and had the most wonderful day with them! since then, we have steadily stayed in touch and as their wedding day got closer, so did my excitement to work with them again. this time, however, I would have the pleasure of meeting their children – both of whom are such wonderful kids and were as thrilled as their parents to finally become a family. these are the weddings that I adore, intimate and carefully planned to make the focus of the day to be exactly what it is.. two people starting a life together and everything that it means. in commitment, in family, in partnership, in friendship, and in love. I am so grateful to have met you and to have two new wonderful friends in my life. I wish you and your family all of the love and laughter that the world has to offer! xoxo

1in all of the years that we have been photographing weddings, we have never ceased to be inspired by our couples… and this year was certainly no exception. the couples of 2016 were romantic, creative, emotional, hysterical, fashionable, brave, and most obviously, best friends and blissfully in love. they know what the other is thinking with just a glance, they finish each others sentences, they have countless inside jokes, they reach for the other’s hand at the same moment… they wipe away a happy tear. we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for inviting us to capture such a special time in your lives. you made us laugh, you made us get a little misty (in the best way!) and you showed us time and time again what true love, friendship, and partnership looks like. it has been an honor and such a pleasure to work with all of you and we wish you SO much love, laughter, and joy in your lives together.. xoxo

1considering that our 2017 season kicks off in just three short weeks, we wanted to begin to wrap up our ‘best of’ 2016 posts. in addition to the photos we take of them together (coming tomorrow) we always like to get images of our brides and grooms individually. typically, we photograph these either before the ceremony or during the first look. these times are always full of anticipation and excitement which is the perfect time to capture the emotion of this time. and… if we do say so ourselves, we have some of the most handsome grooms and beautiful brides on the planet ~ inside and out!

1everybody loves a good party and this year our couples planned some epic celebrations! from grand events held in ballrooms with 300 guests to intimate affairs on family farms, we had the opportunity to photograph so much fun and love. there were lovely, heartfelt, and hysterical toasts… special moments between old friends, endearing traditions, big bands, serenades, string quartets + bluegrass. show stopping confections ~ wedding cakes and custom made cookies that were almost too pretty to eat and some of the best food we’ve ever tasted. 2016, you threw one hell of a shindig!

1whether it was a big and beautiful gang of friends or just one sibling on each side, this year our couples had some of the coolest bridal parties that we’ve ever worked with. they braved inclement weather, created stunning centerpieces, and took on chauffeur duties at the last minute. they hoisted us up into trees so that we could get the perfect shot. they took care of the ‘dogs-of-honor’ and they mixed the cocktails – but most of all, they provided our couples with friendship, laughter, support, and love.

1in 2016 our couples said ‘i do’ everywhere from local waterfronts and family farms to a winery in the mountains and historic DC landmarks. we witnessed many happy tears, spontaneous laughter, and heartfelt readings during these ceremonies. we worked at some of our all time favorite venues as well as having the opportunity to be introduced to some lovely and new (to us) locations. we traveled all over the mid atlantic and had the honor of documenting the weddings of several lovely friends. as fun as it is to shoot other moments of a wedding day, the ceremonies are our favorite. after all, this is the centerpiece and the reason that all of their loved ones have gathered.. to see two people commit to a life together and begin their journey to wherever it may lead.
