I met John a year and a half ago at the gym- we seemed to always be there at the same time.  Between jumping ropes and weight sets we struck up a conversation and I found out that he was in the Coast Guard.  He was stationed here after living in Florida for awhile.  John recently shared with me that he had gotten a new best friend, a pit bull named Bella.  If you follow the blog, you know that we worked with a lot of dogs last year but never a pit bull and I was excited for the opportunity.  Because John is in the Coast Guard, I decided an ideal location would be by the water and asked him to bring his uniform and fatigues to the shoot.  The moment I saw Bella I was in love!  She is so beautiful and friendly.  When John finally let her out of the truck she bounded out and raced around her new playground.  I could instantly sense the bond between John and Bella and knew that this was a true example of man’s best friend.

I think Bella was telling us she was ready to head home :)  I had a great time with you two and can’t wait til next time!

sampson and booker here! while the ladies are busy getting together images for next week’s ‘best of’  posts we thought we’d help out by taking care of the category that we love the most: our canine compadres :) this year at the studio we have hosted a number of dog benefit shoots and have raised money and food donations for organizations like the WCHS and safe haven who do wonderful work to help our dog and cat friends in need (yes… we even love the cats – but don’t tell anyone *wink wink*) raye and kristie assure us that next year will be even bigger with some on-location sessions and multiple day events. thanks from all of us here at GPA to those who came out this year, gave generously and introduced us to so many new friends!

last weekend we held our 3rd and final dog days event of 2011 – SANTA PAWS!! we had such an amazing time with all of the pups and their owners who came from as far as baltimore :) food donations were requested for safe haven animal sanctuary and our clients, as usual, were rockstars! we collected hundreds of pounds of food as well as toys, chewies and financial donations. I seriously don’t remember when I’ve laughed so hard - both while we were shooting and while editing the photos. the dogs that we photographed were awesome! all together we had the pleasure of working with emma, lola, zues, bo, beija, bella, ida claire, raegan, pearl, bunker and paxi. and so many thanks go out to all of their “parents” for helping us get their attention and getting them accessorized :) we have some really cool ideas for our 2012 dog days events – all dog events benefit local animal charities and organizations and we’re so grateful to help even in a small way with all of the wonderful things they do – especially in this season of gratitude.

thanks again to everyone who joined us for a great day – happy holidays to all of you!!

If you follow us on the blog or on facebook then you know we recently had our fall mini sessions.  Liv and I were so stoked for the weekend because we knew we’d be working with some of our favorite clients plus meeting new friends who were joining us for minis for the first time.  We love mini sessions because it gives us the opportunity to work with a lot of different people at the same time.  Despite windy and sometimes chilly conditions, our clients were amazing to work with as always.  If you weren’t able to make it to our fall mini sessions keep an eye out on the blog for our Mother’s Day minis coming this spring! :)

We had so much fun with you guys!  We barely paid attention to the hazards of the job ( ie: seagull attacts and sand drifts – love you liv ;) )

a little over a month ago, mel and I went to salisbury to take part in their 3rd friday art stroll – it was a dog themed evening and when we were invited to participate, we jumped with glee! all of us have dogs here at the studio and if you’ve followed the blog you know we LOVE to photograph them :) unfortunately the clouds rumbled and lightning was flashing within minutes after we set up, but we had SO much fun with the pooches we did meet!

we had so much fun! this makes us even more excited for our upcoming holiday dog days event – details coming soon!

booker and sampson here! raye was about to sit down to write this blogpost but we figured that because it was a dog days post that it was only right that we should take care of it – we are the studio DOGS after all – why assign us a role and not let us contribute?? geeesh… anyhoo! paws for a cause was our first dogs days event held at the studio – raye and kristie spent 2 fun-filled days working with many dogs of all shapes and sizes. kristie came up with some very unique sounds to get the attention of our buddies while they both snapped away. the coolest thing is that a portion of all proceeds and future print orders will go directly to the WCHS – even cooler is that this is one of many events to come! all of our girls have dogs, many of whom were rescued and who’s very survival was made possible by organizations like WCHS. the studio hopes to work with them and folks like them for many fun sessions yet to come. our next event will be in late summer/early fall once wedding season eases up a bit. don’t fret! we will be the first to tell you what we overhear during upcoming studio meetings regarding anything dog related… just doin’ our job!

all of kristie’s sisters came down with her dog reef for a big group photo!

if you want any further info on our dog days events or just pet portraits in general, shoot raye an email

meet lillian! her mother emily contacted me about a month and a half ago – she works with my national geographic ladies (holla katie, maura & jessica!) and initally was interested in a maternity session but life had plans of it’s own and the session changed to lillian’s first photo shoot. I met up with the family at their home and lillian was sleeping away – I also met dad rory and their dog harold who both had me laughing all afternoon

love the nursery – the chalkboard paint under the chair rail is genius!

ahhh..loving the light and the serenity of this photo

I seriously did not prompt this dog – he’s just that good  – and the soccer ball kills me :)

how adorable is she?

I know this is lillian’s session…. but come on – how cute is harold?!?!

emily & rory signed lillian up for our “grow with me” package and I’m SO excited for our next session! you all were so wonderful to work with and I can’t wait to capture miss lillian as she grows!

meet sam! I had a shoot with sam about a week and a half ago for a very special client – sam belongs to chuck strickler. chuck was a minister here in snow hill for a long time and is VERY important to my family.  he married my parents, baptized me, presided over the funerals of both of my grandparents and married me and my husband – lots of history!  he lost his wife this past april, so when his daughter contacted me to do a shoot with sam for an christmas gift – I was more than willing. not only do I love chuck dearly – I adore dogs. photographing dogs, playing with dogs, napping with dogs. If I go to a social event and there are dogs there, more than likely I will spend more time with the dogs than with people. those who know me well, know the importrant part my dogs have played in my life and to photograph them is just the best.  sam was so much fun!

thank you cherrie and cindy for inviting me to do this for your dad – it’s the least I can do after all he’s done for me and my family. and I love sam!! he’s a great big ball of love
