1this summer has been so special.. so many of my dearest friends have welcomed new additions into their families and when I was told of the arrival of baby indigo, I couldn’t have been happier. amanda and I have known each other for a long time. a relationship that began as co-workers has evolved into a friendship that I am so grateful for. a few years ago, when I learned that she was pregnant with her son orion, she was living in indiana at the time. fortunately, she came home to visit and we had time to photograph a maternity session. shortly after that, she and her family moved back to the eastern shore and I was so happy to have her back home. last fall, she modeled for me for an editorial shoot and it was then that she shared her happy news… ‘we have to get another maternity session on the books.’ she said with a smile. I put my camera down and hugged her tight, so excited for my friend. and what a session we had! it was early this summer.. and it was beautiful. we had grand plans for me to be there for the birth of her daughter, indigo, but babies enter this world on their time and unfortunately it didn’t work out. so on to plan b! I went to their home and had such a lovely afternoon with all of them. orion was clearly tickled with his new role as big brother… he doted on, tickled, and kissed his baby sister throughout the session. amanda and chris were as they always are.. happy, peaceful, and madly in love with each other, their family, and their life together. amanda, I am so very happy for all of you and am so grateful to have you as a cherished member of my tribe. love you!

100jen is one of the dearest friends I’ve ever had. we met close to 15 years ago and at first, I didn’t think she liked me. at the time, I didn’t know that she was from new york (like me) and that communicating via sarcasm was her go to (again, like me). to say that I was a little sensitive and at a challenging point in my life when we first met is an understatement. but once I got to know her.. that was it. she was one of my people, part of my tribe forever and ever. during the years that we have been friends, we have been firmly by each other’s side through so much. the passing of loved ones, marriages, heartbreak, love + loss, thrilling successes, everyday challenges, and everything in between. without ever asking, she has always been there for me and I hope that I have done the same for her. I remember the first time I met her husband, bryan. I was in the giant, picking some things up for that evening’s football game and I spotted her and this guy I didn’t know.. walking hand in hand, in matching NY giants jerseys, making their way down the snack aisle. with appropriate stealth, I made my way to the back of the store so that I could ‘randomly’ bump into them. jen smiled wide as she introduced me to bryan and I knew that she was smitten with this guy. to make a long and very sweet story short.. it was only a little after a year of this ‘chance’ meeting that I photographed their their wedding. then last year, when I learned that they were expecting, I was so very happy. to see her transform throughout her pregnancy into the mother she is today has been such a lovely gift. and once I met their son derek and saw the absolute joy in jen’s eyes, I knew that my friend had become complete. jen, I love you more than words can say and am so very honored to have been a small part of your journey throughout the years. xoxo

1two years ago, I photographed their destination wedding in charleston ~ last year, I photographed their local reception for family and friends ~ 2 months ago, I photographed their maternity session ~ and then last week, I had the immense pleasure of photographing their first session as new parents. during a relatively short window of time, I have come to learn so much about adrianne and jimmy and they have become such dear friends to me. to be with them during such big life moments has been something that I cherish and am so grateful for. after their maternity session, they had decided that they wanted to do a birth story.. so as adrianne started to go into labor, I received a text 9:19pm as she and jimmy headed to the hospital. knowing that each birth is different, I told them that I would check in the next morning and come to the hospital once steven’s arrival was imminent. we texted back and forth the next day but it was eventually decided by adrianne’s doctor that steven was going to be delivered by c-section. the next day, they invited me up to the hospital to meet the little guy :) due to some precautionary measures, he was in the special care nursery so I went down with his grandmother, mama charlene, for my visit and fell in love at first sight. he is so darling! after several days, they were given the green light to go home and shortly thereafter,  I went to the house to spend the morning with everyone ~ including fur babies, maggie and maya, of course! I am SO very happy for my friends ~ they already have this parenthood thing down! steven is such a happy boy and when he is in his parent’s arms, all is perfect in his world. who knows what our next session may bring? much love! xoxo

1last june, I had the pleasure of shooting the beautiful backyard wedding for danielle + john, so when danielle emailed me to tell me they just welcomed their son, dean, I couldn’t wait to see them and meet their new addition! one of my favorite parts about being a wedding photographer is getting to know our couples and being able to document their growing families. we started our session off with a little guns n’ roses compliments of rockabye baby playing in the background (seriously – new parents, if you don’t know of these albums yet – check them out!), and spent some time in his magazine-worthy nursery. dean was such a chill and happy little baby – he was totally posing for the camera- and danielle + john were just beaming with pride and so wrapped up with him. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to see you two again and to meet your handsome son! until next time! xo

1it seems like only yesterday that I photographed claire’s newborn session, so when I walked into the home of my friends, allison and bryan, I was so amazed by just how big she has gotten. for this photo session, she had a different role than the last time… big sister to baby leah! and she was so excited. we started the session in leah’s nursery ~ she is such a calm and happy baby and was looking at me straight in the eyes from the time the first shutter was snapped. claire looked on and then joined her little sister before we got mom and dad involved too. they are such an adorable family and I am so happy to have been able to document their family’s story  since it began on their wedding day. I look forward to seeing you all again soon!

1I normally begin these kind of posts by saying something like  ‘if you’re familiar to the blog, you will know this family…’ but by now, it basically goes unsaid with the hoos family. I counted, and since their engagement session, kate and mark have been featured more than any other couple on this blog. a fact that makes my heart smile! most recently, they asked me to come to their home to photograph their family now that their son, jack, has arrived. I was greeted, as usual, by their big, beautiful, brown boy brant ~ lord how I adore this dog and some snuggles with him made my day. then their son trey popped into the room and proudly introduced me to his baby brother, whom he is clearly crazy about. I had such a wonderful morning with all of them and in the middle of the session, I just had this almost overwhelming sense of gratitude. it’s enough that I get to do what I love for a living.. more than enough. but the people I have met along the way have become like family to me and when their tribe grows.. so does mine. I love all of you and can’t wait to see what the future brings! xoxo

1it feels like it was only yesterday when I photographed sarah and kevin’s beautiful wedding. bryan and I had so much fun that day ~ sarah and kevin are the kind of people who just make you feel at home and their intimate ceremony with their family and friends was so lovely. as I said good bye that evening I remember being a little sad that I wouldn’t be seeing them again for awhile. then! one morning I popped on facebook and to my delight they announced that they were expecting! as I followed their progress, I learned that their daughter, mary quinn, had arrived – happy and healthy and ready for her close up :) I was greeted by kevin and my buddy gizmo. this little guy is just about the coolest dog that I have ever met and I had missed him. knowing how important that their ‘furr-kids’ are to them, I knew that both gizmo and charlie would be joining us and I couldn’t have been more pleased. as you will see in the photos, gizmo was not going to be left out of this session… no sir. no way. it was so wonderful to see you again and meet your beautiful daughter. I am so happy for all of you and can’t wait until next time ! xoxo

1ever since our maternity session last fall, I have been looking forward to meeting this little one. but between the holidays, crazy schedules, and some run-of-the-mill winter sniffles, it took us a little while… but I was so happy when I finally got to meet jackie and jonathan’s adorable daughter, tris. as I walked through their front door, jonathan was bundled up with her on the couch. I was greeted enthusiastically by the family pup, paxi, who became glued to my hip for the rest of the morning – he’s a very good assistant, if I do say so myself. as I bent down to meet tris for the first time, I noticed her bright and happy eyes, and hair… lots of it! she is such a sweet baby and jackie and jonathan have never been happier than when they are with tris.. they glow! I am so grateful that I was able to spend this time with you and have the opportunity to photograph such a beautiful girl. I am so happy for all of you and am looking so forward to our next session   xoxoxo

1today’s best-of blogpost is basically a part two of yesterday’s maternity post. especially when working with first time parents, there is a lot of excitement, anticipation, and a little fear of the unknown as they wait for their baby to arrive. then… their son or daughter is born and anything that they may have been anxious about before has disappeared. it is a time of such tenderness, wonder, pure joy, and unconditional love. photographing these sessions allows us to see another side of our clients and friends as they enter into this new chapter of their family story and it always leaves us grateful for the opportunity to capture such lovely moments. we also had the pleasure of photographing the newest little member of the studio as our very own laura and her husband derek welcomed their daughter, harley, to the world (and new pup molly! you’ll be seeing more of her when the pets post is up :) )

1it’s hard to put into words how I feel about these photos. I look at them and I see so much history, so much change. it’s tangible proof of just how quickly life happens and how new beginnings blossom. I’ve known bryan for most of his life, ever since he was an infant. in fact, in many ways, he’s the closest thing to a little brother that I have. together we have experienced many of the ups and downs of life. his grandmother was one of my absolute favorite people on the planet and his parents have stood by my side through my best and worst times. bryan drove me to my wedding and was there for me talk/vent/cry to when my parents were sick. he is one of my constants and always has been. he and his wife melissa went to college together but it wasn’t until later that they reunited and knew that they were meant to be together ~ sealing it by taking their vows on the beaches of jamaica. they lived in DC during the early days of their marriage but moved down here on the shore and recently purchased a home in snow hill ~ in fact, they live so close that I can practically see their house from my office window. when I learned that they were expecting, all I could think of was how thrilled everyone would be by this happy news, I was over the moon! and when it was time for flynn’s first photos, I was so honored to photograph them. melissa and bryan are so clearly meant to parents – there is such an ease and comfort about them when they are with their son and their happiness is beautiful. I can’t wait to see the journey of this little man and all that he will become year after year. I love you all xoxo
