1a few short weeks before I photographed this, I visited my cousin, caitlin, and her newborn son, kie, at the hospital. we had a quick session to document this special time, but I knew that I would return to include big brother, gray… and the family pup, diesel (long but funny story there… :) ) when they were still at the hospital, gray wasn’t too sure what to make of this new person who everyone was coming to visit. but now at home, it was so lovely to see that he’s starting to figure out that he’s got a brother, a sidekick, a best friend… for life. I love all of you so much and am so happy and grateful to share this time with you xoxo

1every moment I have spent working with and getting to know casie and frank has been so awesome! they are such a wonderful couple and have so much fun together that it’s impossible not to be drawn into their happiness. from their e-session to their wedding, and now to their daughter frances’ (aka frankie’s) first session, I have been honored to document portions of their story together as a couple and now as a family. because frankie came early, we couldn’t do a newborn session until a couple of weeks ago, but once I walked into their home and met this smiling and happy girl, I was smitten. she has such a vibrant personality already and was a joy to photograph. of course, me being me, I had to get the family pup, chester, in a few shots as well. thank you for a wonderful morning ~ it was so nice to see you and to meet your beautiful daughter xoxo

1I love having the opportunity to document the evolution of a family ~ the anticipation, the slight uncertainty of the unknown, the excitement.. but most of all, the joy. when I photographed sarah and shane’s maternity session, they were over the moon about the life they were about to share with their daughter. and when lucy arrived, life was complete.  when I got to their home, I was greeted by my friends who were just beaming.. so, so happy! then I met miss lucy ~ and she is perfect. I am looking so forward to many more sessions with this special family and to watch lucy grow up in front of my lens  xoxo

1aaatoday’s best-of blogpost is basically a part two of yesterday’s maternity post. especially when working with first time parents, there is a lot of excitement, anticipation, and a little fear of the unknown as they wait for their baby to arrive. then… their son or daughter is born and anything that they may have been anxious about before has disappeared. it is a time of such tenderness, wonder, pure joy, and unconditional love. photographing these sessions allows us to see another side of our clients and friends as they enter into this new chapter of their family story and it always leaves us grateful for the opportunity to capture such lovely moments. we also had the pleasure of photographing several sessions where older brothers and sisters, whom we had photographed as newborns several years ago, joined us. seeing our families grow right before our eyes is one of the great joys of what we have the privilege of doing xoxo

1since their maternity session, I had anxiously been awaiting THE call. susan and mike are two of my favorite people and when I felt their excitement during that session, I knew that once I was their son arrived, I was in for something special. just a couple of weeks later, their son carter was born and I headed to berlin. mike answered the door and was just beaming… a little tired maybe, but so happy. and then susan introduced me to carter who was curled up, asleep, and adorable ~ and susan had never looked more beautiful. we spent the next hour or so, just hanging out together and taking photographs – I loved seeing my friends so happy! I can’t wait to watch this little boy grow up and am looking forward to capturing every special moment ~ love you all!

1like so many other families that I had the pleasure of working with this year, deb and adam started out as wedding clients. their love story is one of inspiration, dedication, and true partnership and I have loved them since the day we met. one thing that makes them unlike any other clients is that every session that I have worked with them, including their wedding, has been photographed at their family vacation home in cambridge. so every year, as summer turns to fall, I have the pleasure of traveling up the peninsula to visit my dear friends at one of the most beautiful places on the shore. this year, I was amazed with their son, evan ~ he’s a little adult now.. seriously. he is such a friendly and funny little guy – I could talk with him for hours. and deb and aram.. well they are still deb and aram. completely smitten, hysterical, and absolutely lovely to capture. I decided to pull a few photos from every session I have done with them just to give you all a little peek of their family journey. I love you all so much and can’t wait until next year!

1the first time that I met sarah and andrew was on their wedding day. initially, we had planned on doing an engagement session together, but with their careers, they travel.. a lot. at the time, we decided that we might do a fun, post-wedding shoot to make up for our missed session, but not too long after wedding day, I got the most wonderful news ~ they were expecting. it was going to be time for a newborn session and I was so excited. by the time that kristie and I left their wedding, sarah and andrew already felt like old friends.. they had been so awesome to work with and as I drove to their home a few weeks ago, I was really looking forward to seeing them again. I was greeted at the door by their pup, gus, who is such an adorable little guy. and then I met their son, liam. for a newborn, he was SO alert with eyes wide open and following our every move. we went upstairs and spent the next hour or so catching up and photographing this beautiful baby boy (and gus.. obviously). I had such a lovely morning with you and hope to see you again before life takes you across the globe xoxo

1I’ve known bonnie for over 10 years and was so excited when laura photographed her and derek’s wedding 2 years ago. theirs was a celebration full of love, laughter, and selfies… tons of them. they also had a theme and a hashtag, #goatsgetmarried… but that will be explained shortly. bonnie messaged me several months ago with the happy news that she and derek were expecting their first child and were interested in some newborn photos ~ yay! as I got to their house, their pup, grover, greeted me at the door. at first he wasn’t too sure what to make of me, but that’s what protective big brothers do. then I saw simone ~ sleepy, adorable, and absolutely beautiful. as we were getting ready to start working, bonnie said that there was one outfit that she wanted to include ~ a goat. because I had edited their wedding, I had seen the hashtag and finally had the opportunity to ask.. ‘what’s up with the goat thing?’. apparently, she and derek had started calling each other goat years ago and it had just stuck. so yes, we definitely had to include the goat outfit seeing as how the family had a new, little, and precious goat. it was so wonderful to see all of you and I had the nicest morning. I am looking so forward to our next session and the one after that as your lovely daughter grows up. thank you so much for a wonderful session! xoxo

1this summer has been so special.. so many of my dearest friends have welcomed new additions into their families and when I was told of the arrival of baby indigo, I couldn’t have been happier. amanda and I have known each other for a long time. a relationship that began as co-workers has evolved into a friendship that I am so grateful for. a few years ago, when I learned that she was pregnant with her son orion, she was living in indiana at the time. fortunately, she came home to visit and we had time to photograph a maternity session. shortly after that, she and her family moved back to the eastern shore and I was so happy to have her back home. last fall, she modeled for me for an editorial shoot and it was then that she shared her happy news… ‘we have to get another maternity session on the books.’ she said with a smile. I put my camera down and hugged her tight, so excited for my friend. and what a session we had! it was early this summer.. and it was beautiful. we had grand plans for me to be there for the birth of her daughter, indigo, but babies enter this world on their time and unfortunately it didn’t work out. so on to plan b! I went to their home and had such a lovely afternoon with all of them. orion was clearly tickled with his new role as big brother… he doted on, tickled, and kissed his baby sister throughout the session. amanda and chris were as they always are.. happy, peaceful, and madly in love with each other, their family, and their life together. amanda, I am so very happy for all of you and am so grateful to have you as a cherished member of my tribe. love you!

100jen is one of the dearest friends I’ve ever had. we met close to 15 years ago and at first, I didn’t think she liked me. at the time, I didn’t know that she was from new york (like me) and that communicating via sarcasm was her go to (again, like me). to say that I was a little sensitive and at a challenging point in my life when we first met is an understatement. but once I got to know her.. that was it. she was one of my people, part of my tribe forever and ever. during the years that we have been friends, we have been firmly by each other’s side through so much. the passing of loved ones, marriages, heartbreak, love + loss, thrilling successes, everyday challenges, and everything in between. without ever asking, she has always been there for me and I hope that I have done the same for her. I remember the first time I met her husband, bryan. I was in the giant, picking some things up for that evening’s football game and I spotted her and this guy I didn’t know.. walking hand in hand, in matching NY giants jerseys, making their way down the snack aisle. with appropriate stealth, I made my way to the back of the store so that I could ‘randomly’ bump into them. jen smiled wide as she introduced me to bryan and I knew that she was smitten with this guy. to make a long and very sweet story short.. it was only a little after a year of this ‘chance’ meeting that I photographed their their wedding. then last year, when I learned that they were expecting, I was so very happy. to see her transform throughout her pregnancy into the mother she is today has been such a lovely gift. and once I met their son derek and saw the absolute joy in jen’s eyes, I knew that my friend had become complete. jen, I love you more than words can say and am so very honored to have been a small part of your journey throughout the years. xoxo
