1I’ve known my dear friend, amanda, for quite a few years now. initially we met when we worked together at my restaurant and while we were co-workers and friends, we didn’t really know each other that well. in the 6 years since, however, through many changes in both of our lives, I have come to love her and appreciate all of the many things that I have learned about her and from her. I watched her as she became a mother to her son orion and have marveled in how she seems to navigate everything with such ease and grace. so when she told me that she and chris were expecting their second child, I was so happy. unlike our chilly session when amanda was expecting orion, for indigo’s session, we had a beautiful day and headed to assateague. orion is such a happy little boy and is clearly excited to meet his little sister and documenting their family during our time together was such a joy. I am so very happy for all of you and am counting the days until I have the pleasure of meeting your daughter. I love you! xoxo

1I had the extreme pleasure of photographing the wedding celebration of adrianne and jimmy, not once.. but twice! the first was at their intimate destination wedding in charleston and the second was a local reception held for friends and family in ocean city at fager’s island. from the first moment that I met these two, I have loved them. they are so warm, welcoming, and just lovely to be around. since I last saw them, a lot has happened. first, they became a family of four when pups maggie and maya came into their lives ~ they recently moved into a beautiful new home ~ AND.. they found out that they were going to be parents! I joined them at their home on a beautiful afternoon to catch some moments of this happy time. after showing me around their new place (gorgeous!) we settled in to start the session. and although this would technically be considered a maternity session, maggie and maya were front and center.. posing for me as only dogs can do :) I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am for all of you (including mama charlene, of course!) and I am looking so forward to meeting your child upon his/her arrival. thank you for such a wonderful day ~ love you!

there are some clients who have become such regulars on the blog, that our readers feel like they know them ~ and kate and mark are definitely at the top of that list. from their engagement session and wedding to santa paws, and then maternity and newborn sessions once their son trey arrived, with family sessions along the way, I have had the honor of documenting every new chapter in kate and mark’s life together since the day I met them. so when I learned that they were expecting their second child, I knew it wouldn’t be long until we would be picking locations for our next shoot. as they pulled up in the lot, mark hopped out and asked ‘so, have you missed me?’ and my answer was a wholehearted yes! because kate and mark aren’t just my clients, they have become dear friends and I feel so lucky to have the job I do. to see trey getting so big as he grabs branches and turns them into fishing poles, knowing that he’s going to be even more grown up as a big brother. to see the same love between kate and mark that I witnessed on wedding day.. only now it’s a little different, because as parents it’s grown even more. and I am so grateful for all of it. I can’t wait to meet their child once he arrives and wrap up their big chocolate lab, brant, in a bear hug. I love you guys and am so very happy for you! xoxo

1this year 8 of our couples shared the happy news with us that they were expecting.. one of them are even welcoming twins! these new parents-to-be had some really cool location ideas and we had sessions everywhere from the beaches of delaware and national parks to the comforts of home. the family pups often joined in which we loved! on two occasions, we had the maternity sessions scheduled but the babies had a different game plan and arrived before we completed the session (everyone is healthy and happy!) check back to the blog tomorrow for our best-of newborn post where you will get to meet some of the new additions to our GPA families.

almost 10 years ago to the day, we opened a little restaurant here in snow hill and one of the first people through the door during our first lunch service was a woman named jena. I had seen her in town during special events like first friday but had never really gotten to know her. and we were busy… that kind of busy where you expect it, but once it happens you just keep swimming. jena had ordered 2 salads for take out and she leaned over the counter, put her hand on my arm, smiled and quietly said ‘I am in no hurry at all, take your time.’ and I immediately loved her. from that day, she and her husband david became regulars and I was always so happy to see them. common pleasantries became longer chats which evolved into let-me-grab-a-cup-of-coffee-and-join-you conversations and before I knew it, I had a really good friend. when jena’s daughter got married, I was hired for the photography and the restaurant was to cater the wedding after-party as well as the day-after brunch… this is when I met jena and david’s son jonathan. he was warm, friendly and hysterical ~ to this day, my friend and then-manager hope and I remember him having us laughing so hard that we could barely pour the orders coming into the bar. at the time he lived in new england but it wasn’t too long after that weekend that jena said that he had met someone ~ and her name was jackie. before I knew it, they were both moving to the shore, had bought a house here in snow hill, and got married. life has been super busy for both of us, so jena and I haven’t been able to have our regular lunches and catch up sessions, but I did learn the exciting news that the first grandchild was on it’s way. I went to the family farm on a gorgeous fall evening and had such a wonderful session with jackie and jonathan ~ they are so clearly over the moon and looking so forward to all of the new journeys that lay ahead and I was so happy to document this special time for them.

it’s hard to believe that it’s been almost 4 years since the first time I worked with jami and patrick during their engagement session. since then, I have had the pleasure of photographing their wedding as well as collaborating with jami on another project. I am always so happy when I get to spend time with them.. they are such a cool couple and so much fun to be with. earlier this year, I met with them and learned some exciting news ~ they were expecting. but there was more.. one more. twins!! they have been pretty busy getting ready – organizing, moving, and purchasing new vehicles to accommodate their family which will double in just mere weeks. I was really happy that we all made the time to photograph a maternity session because this new chapter is just so exciting! jami was amazing! she is very close to her delivery date and as august tends to be down here on the shore, it was hot. but she (and patrick, of course :) ) were so awesome as we spent the afternoon on the beach. I couldn’t be happier for them and am looking so forward to seeing them again once the babies arrive – congratulations!!

whenever my friend meghan contacts me for a session, I am always excited. in the time that I’ve known her and her husband drew, I have come to know their friends and families and love the whole big and beautiful bunch of them! this time it was for some pretty cool news.. she and drew were expecting their first child. they had recently moved into their new home and it was the perfect setting for the session. beautiful light, open spaces, and of course, their pup henry :) if you’ve seen either their engagement session or wedding blogpost, you know that henry is always the center of attention. of course, this day wasn’t any different. after shooting at the house, we headed to a local nature trail and took some shelter in the shade of the beautiful day. meghan and drew are so clearly excited about this new chapter of their family story and I am so happy for all of you! and I simply can’t wait to meet baby murphy… soon! xoxo

001 this year 15 of our couples shared the happy news with us that they were expecting.. one of them are even welcoming twins! these new parents-to-be had some really cool location ideas and we had sessions everywhere from the beaches of the chesapeake bay to nationals stadium. with the help of my dear friend and favorite yoga instructor chrissy ehrhart, owner of zenna wellness, we tried something new this year and photographed our beautiful mothers in serene aerial yoga poses. what we captured was uniquely lovely and we hope to do more of these yoga maternity sessions in the coming year. check back to the blog tomorrow for our best-of newborn post where you will get to meet some of the new additions to our GPA families.

I met up with jamie and drew at wye island on an absolutely perfect fall morning. they came from across the bay for their maternity session and the grounds and waterfront of the island provided the perfect backdrop. jamie is yet one more member of the what I lovingly refer to as the ‘natgeo crew’ meaning that she works at national geographic with many of our other clients – all of whom have been so amazing to work with! our day was certainly another of these wonderful experiences. I am so happy for you as you get closer to welcoming your first child and am so excited to meet the little one soon!

1I’ve known these high school sweet hearts since elementary school and was so excited to see that they were expecting!  Technically, this isn’t Katie + Drew’s “first” baby- I’ve had the privilege of shooting their fur babies (huge + lovable St. Bernards!) for our annual Santa Paws event.  However, I’m extremely excited to shoot this little one when he arrives! :)  I met up with Katie + Drew a few weeks ago and Drew kept her laughing.  Baby Lucas is due to arrive in August and he is already surrounded by love!  I’m so happy for you two and can’t wait to meet him! :)   041 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 17 20 21 22 23 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 40 41 42
