perhaps it’s the advent of DIY wedding blogs and pinterest.. or maybe we just have the most talented and creative clients on the planet (we do!) but in the last several years, we have noticed more and more unique and personal touches included in the wedding decor and design. we love how the details reflect all of the varied interests and passions of our brides and grooms – sharing who they are, both individually and as a couple. whether it’s handmade favors, custom made belt buckles, a perfectly chosen gown (pink!), or handpicked brooch bouquets, our couples went above and beyond this year and the results were stunning!

festival season is definitely in full swing and we are loving it! just one week after the governors ball, we headed to tennessee to one of the biggest parties of the year ~ bonnaroo! the weather couldn’t have been more ideal (complete with one of the most vibrant rainbows we’ve ever seen!) and the music was varied and awesome :) a totally different vibe than gov ball, bonnaroo has developed a reputation for being eclectic with something for everyone. the musicians, the comedians, the films.. and most of all the festival folks all mingled together to create such a magical environment that we hated leaving. next up is lollapalooza in chicago and we can not wait! 2 3 4 5 6 8 8a 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 16a 17 18

Last week I shared with you Liv + Drew’s pre-deployment session and their maternity session taken mid February of this year.  It has been so wonderful to see my friend go through such a beautiful pregnancy and on February 27th I had the honor of being next to Liv in the delivery room along with her family as she gave birth to their first child, Logan Grady.  I got the phone call from Liv around 10 PM on the 26th that she was heading to the hospital because Logan was on his way!  She rode with her mother and Aunt Sherri and they met up with Drew’s mother, Kathleen and his brother Michael at the hospital.  Drew’s father arrived shortly after the birth.  I met up with everyone around 2:30 on the morning of the 27th and as I walked into the hospital room I felt all of the love surrounding Liv.  I know there were so many emotions running though everyone that morning, especially since Drew was in the middle of a 5 day mission.  He and Liv joked the week before that Logan would have to wait for Drew to get back before he made his appearance.  However, baby Logan had a plan all of his own! Liv and Drew talked about the birth beforehand and asked if his brother Michael could set up a GoPRo camera to film the birth.  Lovely Aunt Sherri was the lucky one to have it strapped to her head. ;) I was so happy Liv had such a huge support system and she always had someone’s hand to hold.  In between contractions we were trying to get ahold of Drew who was 8,000 miles away to let him know that his son was on the way!  Kathleen and Michael were finally able to connect to him on FaceTime and I instantly saw a wave of relief rush over Liv.  About 25 minutes later and a lot of pushing, Liv was finally able to hold Logan in her hands!  I’m so glad Drew was able to be there and see the birth of his son and offer words of encouragement to his beautiful wife as she brought Logan in to this world.  He was able to hear Logan’s cry and see the excitement and love in that room.  Logan Grady (the first grand child on both sides!) was born at 4:33 am and weighed 7 pounds 8 ounces and was 20 inches long.  Thank you to all of the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff at PRMC who helped us successfully capture this very special birth.  Liv + Drew, I’m so happy for you both and so blessed that I am able to be apart of your journey and was able to witness such an incredible moment in your lives.

If you follow our blog you probably saw Liv and Drew’s pre-deployment session two days ago.  My friend Liv and her husband Drew, who is currently serving overseas announced that they were expecting their first child they day Drew left for deployment last July.   I was lucky enough to know during their pre-deployment session and was so happy to hear the news!  While Drew has been deployed he and Liv have been able to chat and FaceTime to keep him updated on the progress of the baby.  They had already chosen the name Logan for a boy or girl and when Liv found out she was having a boy she and Drew decided on the name Logan Grady.  It has been such an amazing experience watching my friend go through a beautiful pregnancy.  We met up in the middle of February this year to capture these shots and Logan was born on February 27th.  Stay tuned to see the birth of this sweet little boy and all of the love and support Liv had during delivery- including Drew who was 7,000 miles away!  I’m so proud of you Liv, you are absolutely gorgeous!

this is our final ‘best of’ post and we couldn’t think of a better way to wrap this series up than posting it on valentine’s day. since the beginning of gillette portrait arts, we have been blessed to work with couples who have inspired us and this year was no different. the couples of 2013 were romantic, emotional, creative, hysterical, fashionable and most importantly, crazy in love. we thank you so much for inviting us to capture such a special time in your lives. you made us laugh, you made us cry (in the best way!) and you showed us time and time again what true love looks like. it has been an honor and such a pleasure to work with all of you and we wish you SO much love, laughter and joy in your lives together! xoxo

everyone loves a good party and this year our couples threw some epic celebrations! from grand events held in ballrooms with 300 guests to intimate affairs at home with cherished close friends and family, we had the opportunity to photograph so much fun and love. there were lovely and funny toasts, special moments between old friends, endearing traditions, big bands, beat boxing + bluegrass trios and some of the best food we’ve ever tasted. 2013, you threw one hell of a shindig!

considering that our 2014 seasons kicks off in just a few weeks, we wanted to wrap up our best of 2013 posts. in addition to the photos we take of them together (coming in our final ‘best of’ post of friday) we always like to get images of our brides and grooms individually. usually we photograph these before the ceremony or during the first look. these times are always full of anticipation and excitement and the perfect time to capture some emotional moments. and… if we do say so ourselves, we have some of the most handsome grooms and beautiful brides on the planet!

perhaps it’s the advent of DIY wedding blogs and pinterest or maybe we just have some mad crafty clients (we do!) but in the last several years we have noticed more and more personal touches at our weddings. we love how the details reflect all of their different interests and loves – putting who they are as a couple into all facets of this. we even had one bride who had so much fun when it came to her details, that she’s considering a career change into wedding decor and design. whether it’s homemade guest favors, a perfectly chosen gown (pink!) or a custom artisan wedding bands made by your best friend, our couples went above and beyond and really wowed us this year

whether it was a big and boisterous gang of folks or just one best friend on each side, this year our couples had some of the coolest bridesmaids and groomsmen that we’ve ever worked with. they scaled sculptures and braved inclement weather, they hoisted us up into trees so that we could get a shot, they took care of the ‘dogs-of-honor’ and they mixed the cocktails  - but most of all, they provided our brides and grooms with friendship, laughter, support and love.

this year our couples tied the knot everywhere from the beach, historic mansions and farms to a virgina zoo. we witnessed happy tears, spontaneous laughter and heartfelt readings. we worked at some of our all time favorite venues as well as having the opportunity to be introduced to some amazing new (to us) locations. we traveled to 6 different states and had the honor of documenting the weddings of several very close friends. as fun as it is to photograph the portraits and reception, ceremonies are our favorite because that’s really what a wedding day is about…. two people pledging their love in front of their friends and family – and in several cases this year, their pups!
