1Four years ago, my husband and I met our friends Dom and Savi while at our favorite restaurant and we quickly became friends over great cocktails and lots of laughter. I’ve gotten to meet their families over the years, but last Sunday I had the opportunity to spend the evening with Dom’s side of the family. We had a gorgeous evening in downtown Frederick and spent some time playing in a local park. An evening spent with this group was like being brought right in on an inside joke – everyone is so warm and funny… I definitely had to pause a few times from laughing too hard :) Thank you all for such a fun session!

1I have been photographing weddings long enough to have a pretty good idea as to how the day is going to go. of course, every wedding and every couple is different, but typically the day doesn’t divert far from getting ready, ceremony, portraits of family + my couple, and then reception. sometimes everything is in one location, others there is travel from place to place… perhaps there’s a first look. but aparna and payam’s wedding was a first for me.. all around. the day began early at the temple ~ there were to be 2 different ceremonies. first, there was the hindu ceremony which was so beautiful and filled with tradition and symbolism. aparna and payam had detailed programs written up for their guests and they shared, step by step, what each small ceremony meant which was such a wonderful way to include everyone they love. and then, after a short break to the temple, they returned for a bahai ceremony which consisted of prayers, poems, and the exchange of rings. friends and family joined them for hugs and congratulations before everyone enjoyed lunch. 3 hours later, we all met again at the harbor in fells point. laura joined me then and we were with aparna as she changed for the evening event, a reception on the water. even though they were already married from the morning ceremonies, aparna and payam decided on a first look which we loved! the excitement and anticipation were as if they hadn’t seen each other all day. they are such a magical couple and are just lovely to capture when they’re together. after an entrance that brought everyone.. and I mean everyone, out on to the dance floor, aparna and payam delighted their guests with a choreographed first dance that began with the the love they have for each other and ended with the fun they have together ~ it was perfect! the reception was truly a family event as their parents and dearest friends toasted (and sometimes roasted :) ) them. they spoke of their meeting in medical school and their life together as a couple. they are so clearly admired and loved by everyone who knows them and everyone was so happy that this day had finally come. I adored everything about your wedding and am so happy to have been a part of such a special day. we wish you so much love and happiness in your life together!

001I had every intention of meeting courtney and jason well before their wedding day. we tried.. we really did! due to jason’s service in the military, he was only home twice and we scheduled their engagement session ~ twice. both times it rained and was far too nasty to attempt the session we wanted to do in annapolis. if I’m honest, given the weather forecast the week before their wedding, I feared that our history would repeat, but fortunately the day was beautiful! when I got to the home of courtney’s mother, it was courtney who answered the door and she hugged me as if she had known me forever (which was kind of true, actually :) ) she was as lovely in person as she had been during our many conversations and was very ready to get this show on the road and marry her love. but right as we were about to leave for the church, her dress broke. really.. it broke. the thread broke on one of her straps and nothing short of a needle and thread would fix it. some brides may melt down at this moment.. after all, the limo had just arrived, but courtney, while a little concerned, just went with it. a phone call later, the amazing ladies from the bridal boutique met her at the church and within seconds, all was well. courtney would have gone down that aisle regardless.. this much I know is true. because her love, her life, and her future husband were waiting. I alway admire couples like courtney and jason ~ they fall in love and then because of circumstances beyond their control, they have to spend weeks, months, and sometime years apart. and yet their love and commitment endure. it somehow makes it sweeter.. as though true love could get better than it is. but as courtney walked down the aisle with her parents, her eyes were focused solely on jason and his on her. jason’s grandfather was the officiant of the ceremony and as he spoke to courtney and jason, the words he spoke were the same that he had spoken to jason’s parents when they were married years before. needless to day, the emotion of the moment was lost on no one. and as they exited the church under an arch of sabers raised by jason’s friends, they kissed and stepped out into tomorrow. together. forever. at last. laura and I are so happy for the two of you and absolutely loved spending such a lovely day with you! we wish you all of the love and happiness in your adventures together! xoxo

ac-001when i met with audrey + chris earlier this spring on the banks of the choptank river, i couldn’t help but be excited for their big day! these two are so laid back, and so much fun to be around, plus their enthusiasm for their wedding was contagious. both of them are advocates for environmental sustainability, and this was evident in all aspects of their big day from their gorgeous location on the river, custom centerpieces featuring wildlife in the area, natural local decor, and one of my favorite details: handmade paper bowties for the groomsmen. even dog of honor, gaius, wore one! one other reason i love this couple is their love of craft beer, which was also woven into their day through details like hops for boutonnieres, and Nobel Rot for The Blessing Over Wine during their beautiful ceremony. so, on this craft beer note: the groom’s brother brewed a special beer for their wedding – choptank kolsch – that everyone was raving about! and of course, guests could tap that beer into their custom made pint glasses along with several others beers by Dogfish Head Brewery from the beer bar made by the groom’s sister! the fact that they happily referred to their cocktail hour as ‘happy hour’ made me love this couple even more. in addition to the great brews, they set up yard games for guests to play – and of course these two got in on the mix! all during the day from portraits to their sparkler send off, audrey + chris were just so at ease and simply having the best time together and with their loved ones. it was so clear for me to see why the chorus from family and friends that night was that they were perfect for each other. i am so, so happy for you two and wish you all the best on your adventures in europe and a lifetime of happiness together! xo! raise a glass to their fabulous vendors:

1last june, I had the pleasure of shooting the beautiful backyard wedding for danielle + john, so when danielle emailed me to tell me they just welcomed their son, dean, I couldn’t wait to see them and meet their new addition! one of my favorite parts about being a wedding photographer is getting to know our couples and being able to document their growing families. we started our session off with a little guns n’ roses compliments of rockabye baby playing in the background (seriously – new parents, if you don’t know of these albums yet – check them out!), and spent some time in his magazine-worthy nursery. dean was such a chill and happy little baby – he was totally posing for the camera- and danielle + john were just beaming with pride and so wrapped up with him. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to see you two again and to meet your handsome son! until next time! xo

1ain all of the years that we have been photographing weddings, we have never ceased to be inspired by our couples… and this year was certainly no exception. the couples of 2015 were romantic, creative, emotional, hysterical, fashionable, brave, and most obviously, best friends and blissfully in love. they know what the other is thinking with just a glance, they finish each others sentences, they have countless inside jokes, they reach for the other’s hand at the same moment… they wipe away a happy tear. we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for inviting us to capture such a special time in your lives. you made us laugh, you made us get a little misty (in the best way!) and you showed us time and time again what true love, friendship, and partnership looks like. it has been an honor and such a pleasure to work with all of you and we wish you SO much love, laughter, and joy in your lives together.. xoxo

1everybody loves a good party and this year our couples planned some epic celebrations! from grand events held in ballrooms with 300 guests to intimate affairs on family farms, we had the opportunity to photograph so much fun and love. there were lovely, heartfelt, and hysterical toasts, special moments between old friends, endearing traditions, big bands, beat boxing + bluegrass and some of the best food we’ve ever tasted. 2015, you threw one hell of a shindig!

1considering that our 2016 season kicks off in just two short weeks, we wanted to begin to wrap up our ‘best of’ 2015 posts. in addition to the photos we take of them together (coming on wednesday) we always like to get images of our brides and grooms individually. typically, we photograph these either before the ceremony or during the first look. these times are always full of anticipation and excitement which is the perfect time to capture the emotion of this time. and… if we do say so ourselves, we have some of the most handsome grooms and beautiful brides on the planet ~ inside and out!

1whether it was a big and beautiful gang of friends or just one sibling on each side, this year our couples had some of the coolest bridal parties that we’ve ever worked with. they braved inclement weather, fetched the tissues when things got emotional, and took on chauffeur duties at the last minute. they stopped traffic in downtown DC so that we could get the perfect shot. they took care of the ‘dogs-of-honor’ and they mixed the cocktails – but most of all, they provided our couples with friendship, laughter, support, and love. 2 3 4 4a 5 6 7 8
