1I love seeing a family grow in front of my lens. every session brings new experiences as children grow and parents fall even deeper in love with each other and their family. this is the fifth time that I photographed my friends, lindsey and alex, and the second time that I’ve worked with them as a family of four. but as I met them at the beach in ocean city on a beautiful summer evening, lindsey could hold on to the happy news one more second. they are expected child number three! wyatt and kyle are going to be such awesome big brothers and I can’t wait until our next session to meet the latest addition to your lovely family. I so enjoy our time together every session and am grateful for clients and friends like you. congratulations!

1in the years that I have known my dear friend courtney, she has never ceased to amaze me. we first met when she opened her salon in downtown snow hill in 2007. shortly thereafter, we began collaborating on many creative endeavors together ~ from bridal and fashion shoots to editorial valentine’s day sessions. the enthusiasm and talent that she has brought to everything we have done together always inspires me and takes these projects to unexpected levels. in the past couple of years, her story has evolved to include a new career as an educator and a reputation as a renovation diva! last year she purchased the building across the street from her original salon space and started from square one ~ from the custom floors to the exposed brick and modern design, the new home of cb salon is breathtaking. she also hired some new members of her team to compliment the growth and new direction of her business. so one afternoon, it was decided.. new photographs for the upcoming website changes were in order! I met courtney, kirsten, and betsy on the farm of a mutual friend and we had a wonderful afternoon using all that was available to us in this unique location. this was the first time that I had worked with kirsten and betsy and they are such a perfect fit with courtney and the salon ~ it’s as though they have been with her all along. I am so happy for you and inspired by you courtney. not only are you one of my closest friends, but also a fellow #bossgirl that I admire and respect so much. xoxo

I’ve always considered myself a cold weather kind of girl. I grew up in syracuse and spent over a decade living in colorado – snow is what I know and usually means skiing, cozy fires, and hot chocolate. this year, however, the winter weather on the eastern shore has been anything but pleasant.. at least for me. maybe it’s because I’m getting older ~ or, in addition to the snow, there have been brutally cold temps.. regardless, I’m over it. but! there is one thing this photographer loves when the world is blanketed in white and that’s a photo shoot. fortunately, my dear friend lexie is always up for an impromptu session and after last week’s snow fall we had a great afternoon together here in town. as much as I love her and love these photos, I think we are both ready for some beach sessions and getting our toes in some sand.. xoxo

1whenever I get a call from my lovely friend sarah it makes me happy. just hearing from her is great as her life and travels seem to take her here, there and everywhere year round. but usually.. at least I’m always quietly hoping, that she’s contacting me to schedule a session. sarah is one of those clients that will do anything.. really, anything to get the photo that I have in my head become a reality. she has worn sundresses in the winter.. she has gone into the ocean in a formal gown – all with a smile and as excited as I am about the final result. to see her awesomeness in action during our last two sessions click here and here. this time we were both thinking along the lines of focusing more on a girl and her guitar and the simplicity that all of that means to sarah. we didn’t have to venture farther than right here in town to find some perfect locations and some beautiful light. the very next day, sarah was boarding a plane to germany and then heading back to NYC for school but I am looking so forward to the next text I receive from her that asks ‘what does your schedule look like?”

this morning as I was choosing the photos for this blogpost, I was going over in my head what I would write about lexie and payton. was I going to tell you about our first session several years ago when they were both giggly girls who found it nearly impossible to sit still because of their infectious energy? or that I saw something in both of them.. that ‘thing’ that you can’t describe when you see it through your viewfinder – you just know it’s there. from that first evening on assateague, I have photographed lexie and payton countless times. whenever we are hired for an editorial shoot, theirs is the first number I call – not only because they photograph better than almost anyone I’ve ever worked with, but because they are two of the coolest, kindest and loveliest girls I know. every time we work together they bring an energy and professionalism that I have rarely seen in models who do this full time and for a living. they are up for anything…. and I mean anything. last year when it snowed (a rare occurrence in these parts and one I always try to take advantage of photographically) I had an idea for lexie… in a snowy field… in a mini dress that I had found for $5 at H+M. when I texted her my idea, she didn’t even bat an eye and an hour later we were ankle deep in snow drifts. not that they weren’t great when I first met them, but watching them grow into the thoughtful and amazing young women that they have become has been such a joy and I look forward to each session and every other opportunity we have to get together. I even love the hundreds of texts I get from lex mere minutes after a shoot, begging me for photos she can use for instagram.  although I know it will be sooner rather than later, I can’t wait to trudge through the snow, dance on the beach, get stuck in the mud or any other adventure our next session gets us into xoxo

kelly is an aspiring model and when she and her mom sandy visited the studio about possibly doing some portfolio work, I was really excited to work with her. with the help of my friend and styling genius brent sollars gould we had a great time putting together looks for kelly who was so enthusiastic about the whole shoot and so much fun to work with. while on location, we dealt with lots of mud, bees and chilly temperatures but kelly wasn’t fazed one bit and handled it all with humor and professionalism. I had such a great time working with her and wish her all the world has to offer as she pursues her dreams.

several months ago at a charity event, we met jenny and christina – the awesome women who own ish boutique in OC. during the event, they had several fashion shows which featured the clothing and products that they carry and we developed more than a little crush on this fabulous shop. by the end of the evening, we had made plans to work with them on an editorial session once the weather had warmed. so a few weeks ago, jenny and christina had chosen and styled the looks, we had assembled some of the most fabulous and fun models and we were good to go. this was such a fun day and by the end of it, it was like we had all known each other for years. if you haven’t had a chance to visit ish, you simply must.. it’s incredible! and keep an eye out for their brand new website, coming soon!
