001a few years ago, I had the pleasure of photographing sisters, briean and whitney, with all of their girlfriends during a girl’s getaway to the beaches of delaware. and smack dab in the middle of all the festivities was their mother, joan. all of the ladies clearly loved this woman as much as her daughters did and it was such a fun evening to document. since then, we have kept up with each other on facebook and several months I could sense that something had happened in the family but didn’t want to intrude. then I received a message from briean and I knew… joan suffered a severe stroke earlier this year and in the time since, everyone has adjusted to a new normal. briean shared with me that her mother was confined to a wheelchair and was non-verbal which was devastating to learn. but then came the sentence that made my heart smile ~ she and whitney had decided to bring joan (‘the ultimate beach lover’) back to rehoboth and she asked if I could meet them over there to take some photographs. I don’t know what I expected, really, but I know what I witnessed and what I had the honor of capturing. I shoot weddings almost every weekend.. so I see love, I capture those moments of excitement, wonder, and joy. I’ve even photographed the birth of a child and the initial, indescribable love of a new family. but this was something different.. this was a love of history, a love of commitment, a love of hope. unshakable. whenever joan would look at her girls, her eyes would brighten and a smile would begin that grew wider by the second. once we got her toes in the sand, her whole body seemed to exhale and she relaxed into the arms of her daughters. we even had a pup come photobomb us mid-session to the delight of everyone. if you’ve ever been a caretaker of a parent, you understand the fear and the frustration and the tears and the hopelessness of the bad days. but you also know the joy and gratitude of the good days. this was a very good day…. xoxo

001I am always amazed by our couples… always. I have seen them approach their wedding day under some challenging circumstances and you would think they would freak out… the vendors freak out ~ trust me. we want this day to be EVERYTHING they’ve planned for, and more. but without exception… through hurricanes, evacuations, snow storms, mid spring flurries, and venue closings, our couples have just gone with the flow. because the thing is, once they have gotten to their first day of a lifetime to spend together, all that matters is love. on kelsey and andy’s wedding day, kris and I got there and were bombarded with a wall of wind as soon as we turned the corner to the river ~ I’d never seen or felt anything like it. and as we entered the space where kelsey was getting ready, we expected some disappointment.. but everyone was laughing and excited as they prepared for her walk down the aisle. music was playing, the champagne was poured, there was a visit from kelsey and andy’s pup, jack, and there were hugs and happy tears everywhere. by the time the ceremony was underway, there was no attention given to anything other than these two amazing humans getting hitched. wind? what wind? it was lovely and it was perfect. every moment of this day was filled with SO much laughter, friendship, and love. every time I turned around, I witnessed a happy embrace of reunion, a stolen kiss, and friends collapsing into familiar giggles. it was truly one of the most heartfelt events that we’ve ever had the honor of photographing and we know that yours will be a life together overflowing with love and happiness ~ cheers! xoxo

001six years ago, I shot an editorial session for my friend, andrea. she was opening her first salon, prim, in annapolis. we hadn’t known each other a very long time back then, but a sisterhood was born that day. she was going down a road that I had already traveled… starting a business is hard. even if you have all of the experience in the world, even if you’re the best in your field, even if you’ve dotted every I and crossed every possible T, you’ve put all of your hopes, dreams, and energy into this and when you open the doors to the public, there’s always that little voice in the back of your head questioning if you’re going to succeed. at least that was true for me and andrea. of course, she needn’t have worried ~ prim’s calendar was full from day one and their client list grew as their reputation surpassed the greatest of expectations. of course it did… my friend is pretty amazing. so it really didn’t come as a surprise when she contacted me earlier this year to share her exciting news ~ prim was growing and a new location was being planned in the heart of historic downtown easton. last friday was the big day and as her family, employees, clients, and friends gathered, andrea cut the ribbon and opened the door to this new chapter of her life. I am so proud of you and very happy for you and the prim family! I look so forward to what the future may bring xoxo
