132amanda and seth were married at the rackliffe house which is a stunning historic estate located on assateague. this was our first wedding there and what a way to be introduced to this lovely location.. a perfect fall wedding with such a wonderful couple! they had chosen to photograph their engagement session there as well, so we knew how much this place had come to mean to them. as amanda and her ladies got the hair and makeup done at a perfect face salon, seth and his groomsmen arrived at the rackliffe. the weather and setting were ideal and as they prepared to see each other for their first look, the world stopped.. if only for a moment. the ceremony took place on the steps the rackliffe house and as amanda and seth sealed their vows with their first kiss as man and wife, cheers erupted from the gathered family and friends. the celebration continued into the reception where after some funny and touching toasts, the party really began! the dance floor was full and hopping as everyone enjoyed such a wonderful day. as they departed through the glow of sparklers, amanda and seth were headed into this new adventure as man and wife and we couldn’t be happier for them!

1 the day that I drove up to their family farm to photograph sarah and zac’s engagement session, I left smitten with three things… their pups, kash and gulliver, the beauty of the farm, and of course, sarah and zac. they are the type of couple that immediately make you feel welcome, like an old friend. they are so open and warm that we all clicked instantly and their e-session was one of my personal favorites. being there also gave me the opportunity to get to know the location of their wedding. as we wandered the farm, sarah told me where her family was going to plant certain flowers, just for the wedding. and with such beautiful property as far as the eye could see, I knew that it would be spectacular come the following fall. so when I drove up the lane to her parent’s house on wedding day, even though I already expected it, I was blown away by the beauty of the day. sarah was calm as could be as I greeted her in the makeup chair – it had been calling for rain all week, and although it was a little windy, the skies were perfect. her mom patti, (who also happens to be an amazing floral designer who did all of the flowers) was busy getting everything organized and on track. later, I went back down the lane to sarah and zac’s house where he was relaxing with his dad and his groomsmen before the ceremony. as we did some portraits by the meadow, sarah’s horse made a brief guest appearance for his close up. all of these little moments were what made this day so special – it was truly a family affair.. everyone contributing in their own way to make this day so special. as the ceremony began on the top of the hill, zac became overwhelmed as he saw his beautiful bride being escorted by her dad across the field. it simply couldn’t have been more perfect. during the ceremony, the families united by adding soil to a tree that would be planted after the wedding. sarah and zac, watered the tree and as they did, I saw something as they looked at each other. the joy of knowing that this tree would grow bigger and stronger over the years – just as their love and commitment to each other would. a metaphor, yes ~ and a very lovely one. your wedding day was one that I will always remember for the the kindness of your friends and families, the beauty and the laughter – but most of all, I will remember the two of you and the love you share. I wish you so much joy in your life together.

the first time I met shelby and cody was during their engagement session at the inlet in OC. it was a little blustery and definitely chilly and I worried that the weather would work against us that morning. as soon as they arrived, however, I knew that my concern was short lived. as they came to greet me with their two adorable pups, leo and lana, their smiles told me all I needed to know… when these two are together, everything is okay. more than okay, it’s beautiful. so when I woke up on the morning of their big day and rain was falling, I knew that their ceremony and reception plans may have to change, but really, with these two, it was going to be amazing ~ no matter what. fortunately, by the time I got to shelby’s family home, the rain was long gone and the day was perfect. shelby was busy getting ready with all of her girls and her vendors were busily creating a magical day for her and cody – everything from the flowers to their special details were all so thoughtful and personal. as cody and his groomsmen arrived, shelby looked out the window at him and if she had been nervous at all, it disappeared. she was ready to see her groom! after an emotional first look, friends and family filled the yard and the ceremony began. and as the afternoon turned into twilight, the bay glowed, lights twinkled, old friends laughed, and the celebration danced it’s way into the night. I am so very happy for you both! you are such a lovely and special couple and I wish you all of the happiness in the world!

almost 10 years ago to the day, we opened a little restaurant here in snow hill and one of the first people through the door during our first lunch service was a woman named jena. I had seen her in town during special events like first friday but had never really gotten to know her. and we were busy… that kind of busy where you expect it, but once it happens you just keep swimming. jena had ordered 2 salads for take out and she leaned over the counter, put her hand on my arm, smiled and quietly said ‘I am in no hurry at all, take your time.’ and I immediately loved her. from that day, she and her husband david became regulars and I was always so happy to see them. common pleasantries became longer chats which evolved into let-me-grab-a-cup-of-coffee-and-join-you conversations and before I knew it, I had a really good friend. when jena’s daughter got married, I was hired for the photography and the restaurant was to cater the wedding after-party as well as the day-after brunch… this is when I met jena and david’s son jonathan. he was warm, friendly and hysterical ~ to this day, my friend and then-manager hope and I remember him having us laughing so hard that we could barely pour the orders coming into the bar. at the time he lived in new england but it wasn’t too long after that weekend that jena said that he had met someone ~ and her name was jackie. before I knew it, they were both moving to the shore, had bought a house here in snow hill, and got married. life has been super busy for both of us, so jena and I haven’t been able to have our regular lunches and catch up sessions, but I did learn the exciting news that the first grandchild was on it’s way. I went to the family farm on a gorgeous fall evening and had such a wonderful session with jackie and jonathan ~ they are so clearly over the moon and looking so forward to all of the new journeys that lay ahead and I was so happy to document this special time for them.

1if you are a frequent reader of the blog, then there will be many familiar faces in this post. since first meeting my dear friend brandi over six years ago, I have had the honor of working with her and her husband will during their engagement session and then their wedding. a couple of years later, her sister robin got married to husband jason and I was there to capture every moment. after that wedding, we almost ran out of time before photographing brandi + will’s maternity session ~ their daughter lydia was born very soon after our session! since first meeting all of them, 4 children have joined this big and beautiful family and everyone had gathered at the beach for a vacation together ~ so when brandi contacted me and said that she wanted to spring a surprise session on everyone to document this time, I was all in! it was a breezy but beautiful afternoon and I was so happy to see everyone. we all went down to the beach and as photos were taken and the kids played in the sand, I was able to catch up with my friends. sometimes it’s a little hard to wrap my head around how much time has passed with my clients and everything that has happened in between, but that’s what these sessions document.. 2 people becoming man and wife, and then parents, and the story of watching it all develop and grow is so beautiful. thank you so much for inviting me spend this time with all of you!

when the end game of a session is to end up in the atlantic ocean, a gloomy weather forecast isn’t the source of stress that it typically is… in fact, the dark and moody clouds with rolling surf can provide a pretty spectacular atmosphere! such was the case with sammy and drew. I didn’t photograph their wedding, but a few months ago sammy contacted me about doing a one year anniversary session and her words were music to my ears ‘I’m open to anything.’ and indeed they were! we met in front of the atlantic hotel in berlin and spent a little time there before heading to assateague. they had brought their bikes and paddle board along and it was perfect! the beaches were blissfully empty because of the weather and it was as though we had the place to ourselves. I had such a wonderful time working with them both and getting to know this very cool couple… if only for an afternoon. happy one year anniversary and here’s to a lifetime of celebrations!
