it’s hard to believe that it’s been almost 4 years since the first time I worked with jami and patrick during their engagement session. since then, I have had the pleasure of photographing their wedding as well as collaborating with jami on another project. I am always so happy when I get to spend time with them.. they are such a cool couple and so much fun to be with. earlier this year, I met with them and learned some exciting news ~ they were expecting. but there was more.. one more. twins!! they have been pretty busy getting ready – organizing, moving, and purchasing new vehicles to accommodate their family which will double in just mere weeks. I was really happy that we all made the time to photograph a maternity session because this new chapter is just so exciting! jami was amazing! she is very close to her delivery date and as august tends to be down here on the shore, it was hot. but she (and patrick, of course :) ) were so awesome as we spent the afternoon on the beach. I couldn’t be happier for them and am looking so forward to seeing them again once the babies arrive – congratulations!!

1 I had a wonderful night on assateague with the Villani family. Jen & Nick recently welcomed baby Evan to their family to join siblings Cate and Ryan. We lucked out with perfect weather on this summer evening on one of the prettiest beaches around. Cate was super cute in her sundress (Mom mentioned she does not like to dress up and always wants to be comfy) and without even knowing this ahead of time the very first thing I said to Cate was “wow, love that dress Cate!”  Meanwhile, Ryan was a ham and playing it up in front of the camera :) Finding common ground with lil ones and warming them up to me is important and once the kids starting playing in the sand, they were having a great time!  As our session wound down, we had the most gorgeous sunset to cap off a very fun evening.

if you are a regular visitor to the blog, then chances are pretty good that these are some familiar faces. in all of the years that I have been photographing weddings, deb and aram’s love story is definitely among my favorites. during the years that I’ve had the pleasure of knowing them, they have become dear friends and the best part is that I get to see them at least once a year! through them I have I learned such beautiful lessons about real love, the kind that gets through everything and anything. I have witnessed a friendship at it’s most powerful where laughter overpowers tears and the strongest of support is given to each other. I have been inspired by them to accept the hard times and celebrate the good, really celebrate! because life is too short for anything less. I have seen them get through a lot together and get only closer as they experience true joy.. and to say that they are two of my favorite people is an understatement. to read their story, click here, here, and here. to say that I’ve known caitlin since she was born is accurate, but not necessarily true.. I’ve known of her. she is the first family member that I’ve photographed for the grey t-shirt project and she is my cousin – well she is my mother’s first cousin’s granddaughter… we’re third cousins? second? I can never figure that out. anyway.. I would see caitlin here and there during family functions when my mom and I would be down here on the shore for holidays or during the summer. in addition to being almost 20 years apart in age, we really had nothing in common. she was very active in school, athletics, and her church while I was this nomad of a hippie cousin who never really stayed put anywhere long enough to grow roots as she had done in her community. I was always very close to her grandfather, ray (we were both named after my great-grandfather), and in 2005 he and caitlin attended an auction where I noticed that she was eyeing all of the baking display dishes. after a casual inquiry, ray told me that as she was finishing up her hospitality management degree, she was really getting into baking. I thought that was pretty cool and that was that. about 6 months later, I opened a restaurant here in snow hill and after about 2 weeks of doing the desserts myself, I knew that my time needed to spent in the day to day operations and not in the kitchen. I thought of caitlin. what started out as a dessert here and there quickly turned into having caitlin as my off-premise pastry chef… and a real friendship, after decades of a family acquaintanceship, was born. every week, when she would bring in desserts, we talked and really got to know each other – we teased each other mercilessly, and laughed.. this chick can get me laughing like seldom few can. in february 2006, she was asked to go on a local television show to talk about the desserts that she was featuring at the restaurant for valentine’s day and the man who was to become her husband tuned in. it wasn’t too long after that caitlin excitedly informed me that jamie had proposed and she asked me to be her wedding photographer. in the years since, I have watched her suffer the loss of her grandfather with grace and maturity well beyond her years – he was one of the most important people in her world. I have watched her become a teacher who is so exceptional at what she does. and I have watched her become a mother to an adorable boy named gray. she was once someone I would see a handful of times every year and loved because she was my family, but now she is the closest thing to a little sister I have and I am so grateful to have her in my life.

I was fortunate to spend a Sunday evening with Amanda & Seth for their engagement session at the Rackliffe House – we had planned on photographing the session on the beaches Assateague but decided last minute that it would be neat to shoot on the grounds of this gorgeous estate, as this is actually the venue for their wedding in September. We lucked out with a perfectly clear night, and most importantly no bugs! It was great to scout out the location, talk about the details of their upcoming day, and to get a chance to know the two of them. How awesome is it to be around a couple so in love and relaxed in front of the camera? And Amanda and Seth are that kind of couple. To revisit this very spot in little over a month as the two of you say ‘I do’ will be such a beautiful event and I am really looking forward to your wedding day!

whenever my friend meghan contacts me for a session, I am always excited. in the time that I’ve known her and her husband drew, I have come to know their friends and families and love the whole big and beautiful bunch of them! this time it was for some pretty cool news.. she and drew were expecting their first child. they had recently moved into their new home and it was the perfect setting for the session. beautiful light, open spaces, and of course, their pup henry :) if you’ve seen either their engagement session or wedding blogpost, you know that henry is always the center of attention. of course, this day wasn’t any different. after shooting at the house, we headed to a local nature trail and took some shelter in the shade of the beautiful day. meghan and drew are so clearly excited about this new chapter of their family story and I am so happy for all of you! and I simply can’t wait to meet baby murphy… soon! xoxo

1 The power of the internet — when I showed up at the Miller’s vacation home in Bethany Beach I asked, so how did you hear about GPA? assuming that they were friends of some of our past clients, but nope.. good ole google! They were actually vacationing in Delaware all the way from the great state of Ohio and wanted to have some photos taken while they were all together. It was so nice to spend a relaxed Tuesday evening with them capturing some memories. We lucked out with a semi overcast evening and the sun popping out toward the end of our session. ‘I just knew,’ lyndsey said as we chatted on the phone earlier this summer ‘I just knew that we were meant to be together.’ eric and lyndsey planned their wedding quickly – as in 2 months fast. and there was a reason for that ~ after meeting in church when lyndsey moved to north carolina, the two of them became friends. best friends. and then one day, it was more.. much more, and making plans to share their life together began. they chose the beaches of delaware to celebrate with friends and family (many of them meeting each other for the very first time!). it was a picture perfect summer afternoon.. the type that doesn’t happen often here on the shore. with little to no humidity and a light breeze, lyndsey took her father’s arm and walked down the beach to her love. I am a sucker for happy tears.. always have been. I’ve been known to do ninja-like moves behind my camera to capture these moments because I think that it where the love story lives.. where you physically can’t contain the joy of these moments, these words. and they were flowing all day for lyndsey and eric – it was so lovely. I am so happy that I got to meet both of you and document such a special day. your love and your friendship are inspiring and an honor to capture. I wish you a lifetime of happiness! xoxo
