1 throughout the history of the studio, I have met so many wonderful people with whom I’ve established such lovely relationships with for years after we’ve worked together. some bridesmaids have become brides, brides have become mothers, seniors have become brides.. and to continue to tell the stories of my clients and to become friends with so many is truly a gift. with heather, our history is truly unique. years ago I photographed the wedding of her mother, lora, which was a beautiful and intimate affair in their home by the bay. all day, heather was making sure that everything her mother had wanted and planned went off without a hitch.. and it was gorgeous! so it wasn’t too much of a surprise to me when I heard that heather was forming her own event planning business, HJ Planners in DC. I was so happy when she asked me to take photos of her and her team as she was building her brand which was growing so quickly and gaining such an amazing reputation for professionalism, creativity, and custom service. GPA began photographing weddings for HJ Planners and through them, we have met and worked with some of our favorite couples ever.  then… I started to hear about a man named scott. photos of them together started popping up and heather’s facebook page and she looked so happy! later that year, I met him when they were down here on the shore for the holidays and it was so clear that they were made for each other. I was so happy to see my friend blissfully in love and scott was such a wonderful guy and a perfect fit… an announcement that they were getting married soon thereafter was such happy news. they are getting married in charleston next month but they wanted to have their engagement photos done closer to home and we met up in saint michaels, one of my favorite places! we had a beautiful afternoon and it was so nice to spend so much time with them. they are clearly so excited for their upcoming wedding and I couldn’t be happier for them xoxo

1the first day we met, a normal 45 minute wedding photography consultation with nettie turned into a 2 hour conversation between new friends. we had so much in common and it felt as though we had known each other forever.. and since their wedding day, I have grown to know and love her beautiful family. when nettie and bryan’s son cash was born, it was so lovely to photograph the beginning of this new chapter for them… their family growing and all of the exciting changes that a new baby brings. then last week, I had the pleasure of going out to the farm where they were married. cash was running around, laughing and playing with his grandfather and we had a beautiful day to shoot. he has grown so much and is such a joyful little boy! and seeing them all together filled my heart – I can’t wait for this summer and our beach session with aunt ari! love you!

the ladies of ShaDeeLa have done it again! just when we think that they’ve held the coolest and most inspiring workshop ever, they outdo themselves by offering a day of art, community, and expression. like the day of ‘FEARless painting’ with workshop leaders, dee, deb, and sharon, this day was a creativity reboot. the workshop was held at the green doors which was the ideal location for such an event – using reclaimed barn wood (some of it over 100 years old!) which was then cut into hearts, attendees were guided through new techniques as well as being encouraged to think about a message or a dream that they wanted to express through paint and found objects. so many new techniques were taught and as the hearts began to tell their story, it was such a lovely combined vision… there were no rules, no mistakes, only truth. if you haven’t taken one of these workshops, we definitely encourage you to visit their blog and sign up for their mailing list – you will have such a unique day of creativity, new friendships and community.

1 just a couple of weeks ago, a session at the beach seemed soooo far away. with the snow, ice, and miserable temperatures that have been such a constant this winter, I could only dream about warmer days where I could work with my clients by the ocean. I knew that shelby and cody wanted their session at the inlet as ocean city is a very important place for them and we got lucky.. very lucky! I met up with the two of them, plus their two pups leo and lana :) on a gorgeous monday morning and the day was mild, sunny, and lovely. we worked under the pier and they walked the dogs by the surf… this was lana’s first time at the beach and she was loving it! shelby and cody were so great to work with and so awesome together – it’s so obvious how happy they are and that they’re so excited for their wedding day. I absolutely love chincoteague – ever since I was little and would come to the shore to visit my grandparents, it has been one of my favorite places. so when I first met with clara and she told me that her and ray’s wedding and reception were going to be on the island, I was looking so forward to working with them. for their engagement session, we decided walking around town with their adorable dog hugo, would be ideal. after this seemingly never-ending bout of nasty winter weather, we were given a gorgeous sunday afternoon for the session. and as soon as I met their pup hugo, I was in love. he bounded out of the back of their car, so excited and happy and I knew this was going to be such a fun session! clara and ray are just so cool and laid back and spending the afternoon with them was so nice. I can’t wait for the day I spend with them as they say ‘i do’!

I’ve always considered myself a cold weather kind of girl. I grew up in syracuse and spent over a decade living in colorado – snow is what I know and usually means skiing, cozy fires, and hot chocolate. this year, however, the winter weather on the eastern shore has been anything but pleasant.. at least for me. maybe it’s because I’m getting older ~ or, in addition to the snow, there have been brutally cold temps.. regardless, I’m over it. but! there is one thing this photographer loves when the world is blanketed in white and that’s a photo shoot. fortunately, my dear friend lexie is always up for an impromptu session and after last week’s snow fall we had a great afternoon together here in town. as much as I love her and love these photos, I think we are both ready for some beach sessions and getting our toes in some sand.. xoxo
