a few months ago I saw my friend, barb and her husband, kirk, at a local restaurant. after exchanging greetings and hugs, barb shared some exciting news… ‘eddie is engaged!’ and you could see how happy this news made these parents. fast forward several weeks and I met this awesome woman named rachel at the berlin ‘say I do’ wedding show and really appreciated her thoughts and vision regarding her wedding photography – we had actually already had some conversations via email, but it was really nice to meet her in person. she and I scheduled a consultation shortly thereafter and dontcha know.. eddie was the groom!  they already had a location and a few ideas in mind for their engagement session and from the sound of it, it was going to be a really fun shoot. needless to say, I was not disappointed – with a beautiful fall evening to play with, the property that they chose for their session had all of these beautifully restored buildings that the owner had saved from ruin. there was also a vintage pickup truck that caught my attention as soon as I drove up the lane. eddie is a cop and they used his career as inspiration for their save-the-dates which I thought was pretty cool. we worked until the sun went down and lit up the sky with one of the most beautiful sunsets that I’ve seen in a long time. I had such a fun evening with you both and am looking so forward to your wedding.

In the weeks leading up to Kristin + Michael’s wedding, I was getting so excited to work with them as I learned about the details of the big day. Driving to Philly that morning, rain clouds made me and Jillian nervous – but walking into the bridal suite to meet Kristin, you would never know there was a cloud in the sky! She was just so calm and clearly so excited to marry Michael. While I stayed with Kristin to get some photos of the final touches with her bridal party and family, Jillian headed out with Michael to meet up with his buddies for some photos at the bar near the venue.

If you live in the Philly area, do yourself a favor and check out Artesano Ironworks. Their space is filled with beautiful paintings, iron artwork and dramatic lighting. It was the perfect setting for Kristin and Michael’s wedding! As soon as this couple locked eyes on each other as Kristin walked down the aisle, it was so obvious how perfect they are for each other, and why their families and friends were practically bursting with happiness for the two of them.

Now, it’s not every couple that will opt to take their wedding photos in the rain, but I’ve got to say, we have some pretty amazing couples at GPA, and Kristin and Michael weren’t going to let a little sprinkle of rain stop them from getting their portraits outside! So with the bridal party, we headed to a spot covered in beautiful murals by the canal, which was so worth a little rain!

Back inside at Artesano, the party got started with hilarious and heartfelt toasts by Matron of Honor, Katie, and Michael’s brother and Best Man, Billy. A few childhood toys of Michael’s even made a surprise appearance! And once that dance floor opened up – wow did this crew have a blast! the DJ kept everyone moving with the couple’s favorites, including some 90′s classics. Kristin and her girls were breaking it down on the dance floor all night, and her groom absolutely rocked out the mic to Piano Man with his friends. Connected Entertainment provided some fun props with their photo booth which kept everyone smiling too!

Kristin and Michael, we are so glad to have met you two and had such a fabulous day! We hope that you had a great time in Italy and we wish you the best!

1 santa paws has easily become one of our favorite events of the year! all of us are dog lovers and being able to spend 2 days photographing so many awesome pups is the highlight of our late fall season. this year we held back to back events in snow hill and baltimore and worked with 30 dogs of every possible size and breed – their families even got into the action toward the end of the sessions :) this year’s charity shoots benefited the wicomico humane society and the downtown dog resort and once again our amazing clients went above and beyond with their donations – your generosity and love blew us away and we couldn’t be more grateful! we are also very appreciative of everyone who helped out behind the scenes.. whether it was bringing us lunch or loading up the many, many bags of food that were donated, thank you thank you thank you! we wish all of our clients a very happy thanksgiving and a lovely holiday season! xoxo 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25

I love what I do because I get to work with people I love!  I first met Mallory at her niece, Emily’s, newborn session at ther Aunt Sandy’s house.  This was the same place her other sister, Jillian, and Jeff’s wedding took place.  There, I had the pleasure of meeting the rest of her family- Shaun, Payton, Gabe + Logan!  I was so excited that they wanted to have a family session with me and that we could all work together again!

Last week we all met up and took advantage of the beautiful, fall colors!  I was greeted by Payton’s beautiful blue eyes and big smile and the twins giggles.  Aunt Sandy joined us for the fun!  Thank you all for a fun afternoon! :)

1This whole family is no stranger to our blog. :)  You may remember them from Jen + Jon’s wedding two years ago.  Liv photographed everyone here, at Trap Pond State Park for the big celebration and I had the pleasure of meeting up with Jen and Jon again for Pearl’s newborn session a few months ago.  Everyone decided to get together for a fun family day last month and I was able to meet the rest of the gang!  I had so much fun with you all! :) Happy Birthday, Terry!

1 I am biased.. let me just start off with that. I mean obviously, as you scroll through this post, you will see that this is an exceptionally adorable family. but what’s awesome, is that they are my family. growing up, I considered my cousins caitlin and taylor little kids that I was supposed to be nice to at family functions, they were pretty cute and sweet – but because I was a generation behind them, older, and lived out of state, I would pat them on the head and wish them well until the next holiday. fast forward until 2005 and my relationship with caitlin began to grow into a friendship (I will elaborate on our relationship in caitlin’s grey t-shirt project post :) ) and then she met her soon-to-be husband jamie. soon I found myself photographing my ‘little’ cousin’s wedding and was so proud of the woman she had become. around this time, her brother taylor and I started to become closer – he’s so smart, funny, and just an all around lovely human being. he has come to hold a very special place in my heart.. I see a little of grandfather and a lot my mother in him.  I was so grateful that they were becoming a bigger part of my life as my immediate family was growing smaller and I don’t know what I would have done without them. then cait called to tell me that she and jamie were expecting.. it didn’t seem possible, really. I know it sounds funny but even after all of her personal and professional accomplishments, she was still a teenager in my head. but once their son gray arrived, I knew that she had found her deepest happiness and joy. gpa2014 hoilday cards

we know, we know… it’s not even thanksgiving yet! it’s too early to even think about christmas! and we completely agree with you… trust us, a decoration has not gone up nor a carol played. however, a lot of our clients have been asking us about this year’s holiday cards so we wanted to get the 2014 designs up here on the blog. we’ve brought back some of our favorites as well as adding some new choices. on most cards, the words, colors, and fonts can be changed to your liking. all cards – with the exception of the chalkboard 5×5 tri-fold (the 7th card posted), can be printed in either as a 3×5 or 5×7 card and all include white envelopes sized accordingly. if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at rayevalion@gilletteportraitarts.com

Technically Kate and Chris are high school sweethearts… they just didn’t know it at the time! ;)  The grew up around each other through intermediate, middle and high schools but didn’t date till four years after they graduated.  They decided to be each other’s prom dates on a whim and reconnected on the OC bridge the summer of 2011.  Chris proposed by placing Kate’s engagement ring on a red jingle bell ornament and hung it from their Christmas tree.  I’m guessing he’s going to have a hard time topping that this holiday season. ;)  The wedding planning began and the countdown started!

On Kate and Chris’s big day I made my way down to West Ocean City to meet up with the girls.  The rain had already made its appearance that morning so the overcast skies were welcomed.   I entered Kate’s parents’ house and was greeted by beautiful, smiling faces!  Everyone had their hair and makeup done at Headlines Salon and Spa earlier that morning and took the afternoon to catch up.  The gorgeous bouquets from Flowers by Alison were on the table- I loved the fall colors!  The reds, burnt orange and mustard colors were the perfect accents to the girls’ glacier blue dresses.  Jenny Roberts arrived and documented the day with video.  The girls got ready and it was time for Kate to get into her dress!  She wore her grandmother’s diamond around her  neck for her something borrowed and had blue embroidery at the base of her wedding dress.  Jillian headed over to Chris’s mother’s house to meet up with the guys as they got ready for the big day.  After the girls toasted to champagne and the guys to Jack, it was time to head to the church.  As guests filled the pews of St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Chris anxiously waited in the side room surrounded by his groomsmen.  I couldn’t wait to see his reaction to Kate walking down the aisle!  The sounds of violin strings poured over the balcony right before the big moment.  Over 200 guests came to witness and support this very special occasion and day for Kate and Chris.  After they said “I do!” everyone made their way to the Berlin Firehall for the party!  From across the room I saw the beautiful cake made by Shana Chatlos and could smell the delicious food being prepared by (one of my personal favorites!!) Taylor’s BBQ.  DJ Donnie kept the dance floor rolling as friends and family surrounded Kate and Chris.  When that many people are in a room together air guitars, the Worm, dance offs and karaoke are bound to happen! :) The party ended up going later than everyone had planned!  This just shows you how close and connected Kate and Chris are with their friends and family.  I am so happy I was able to witness so much love and support and to be able to capture this beautiful day!

1I met with janet, norman, and their lovely family on a perfect fall afternoon. the leaves were just right as we all met in sturgis park by the pocomoke river. I had met janet and norman for lunch a few weeks before and knew how excited they were to photograph this long overdue family session. their grandsons were so much fun and have obviously spent most of their lives in front of cameras :) their smiles and playfulness came easily and they were a pleasure to work with. I was so happy that I could photograph a session so important to such a great family – I hope that we can do it again soon!

it’s time for our 4th annual santa paws charity shoot! this year we are planning a weekend of four-legged, furry fun both here on the shore and across the bridge in baltimore. this is always such a happy way to end our season as well as helping out some very cool organizations who love animals as much as we do!

snow hill santa paws details:

  • date: saturday – november 22nd
  • location: 104 west green street – snow hill, md
  • time: 10am-3pm

baltimore santa paws details: 

  • date: sunday – november 23rd
  • location: downtown dog resort – 200 west mccomas street – baltimore, md
  • time: 10am-3pm

session details: a 25 minute session featuring your pup all decked out for the holidays. in both locations we will have wreath and bow collars, christmas light collars for mellow pooches, reindeer ears, santa hats, and some other fun stuff to play with. up to two family members can join their dog during the last 10 minutes of the session. we will have organic treats and plenty of water as well as some squeaky toys to help get their attention but if there is something that your pooch really responds to, please feel free to bring it along. please have all dogs leashed until their session begins. we do our best to have some time to vacate the location in between sessions, but if your pooch doesn’t play well with others, please let us know ahead of time and we will ensure that they have the space all to themselves.

charity details: the session fee is only $30 and includes an online viewing gallery and 1 8×10 print. we are also asking for a donation of at least 1 10lb bag of dry cat or dog food to be given to the wicomico county humane society and downtown dog’s rescue
