when choosing a location to get married, brent and randy did some research. they knew that they wanted to come to maryland, but weren’t interested in spending this special time amidst the hustle and bustle of somewhere urban like baltimore. instead, they fell in love with the serenity and charm of eastern shore and traveled here from their home in north carolina. when they first contacted me, I knew that they were planning to get married at our courthouse here in snow hill and wanted some photos done. what I didn’t know then is just how much I would enjoy our session and that it would quickly become one of my favorite experiences with a couple this year. brent and randy are both so warm and funny and from the second I met them it was if I had known them for a very long time. we strolled the streets of my little town both before and after their ceremony and couldn’t stop talking as we would stop to take some photographs. however brief my time was with them, I will remember it for a very long time and wish them so much happiness.

1 This adorable and spunky chocolate lab is Kona!  She is the new baby of one of our favorite couples, Ellen + Ross!  You may recall their engagement session and wedding last year on our blog.  Ellen + Ross are both serving in the U.S. Air Force (thank you!) and shortly after their wedding Ellen was deployed overseas.  As their first anniversary approached earlier this month, Ross decided to surprise Ellen with a “Welcome Home” and anniversary present.  They named this sweet puppy Kona after the beautiful place they went to in Hawaii on their honeymoon.  Two weeks ago we met up right across the street from where Ellen and Ross were married and had a blast!  Kona covered 5 times the amount of ground that we three did that day.  She even found her way in to the pond for a swim!  I loved how curious and playful Kona is!  It was so good to see you two again and to meet Miss Kona!  I’m so happy you both had a wonderful first anniversary together. :) 1a 2 3 4 5 6 7 7a 7b 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 16 17 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 29 30 31 400 500 I had so much fun- can’t wait for the next time! :D

it’s been quite awhile since I have had the pleasure to see my friends lindsay and alex and the last time I photographed their family was during son wyatt’s newborn session. when I met then at the inn at perry cabin in saint mikes a few weeks ago, I was blown away by how much he had grown. then there was the main reason that we were all getting together – wyatt is going to be a big brother.. soon! we had such beautiful weather as we strolled the grounds of one of my favorites places here on the shore. every time we would turn a corner there would either be a stunning water view or an inspired garden overflowing with vibrant colors and texture. thank you for sharing such a lovely morning with me and  I am looking so forward to see you all soon once the baby arrives.

1I can’t believe this sweet, little girl is already one!  Miss Alexis Lynn and my cousins Stacie + Rusty are already stars here at Gillette Portrait Arts.  Before Alexis was born I photographed Stacie’s maternity session and once she arrived I shot Alexis’ newborn session.  When May rolled around this year it was time for another photo shoot with this little princess!  We met at my lovely Aunt Debbie’s house for a “girl’s day” and my beautiful grandmother joined us as well!  Alexis showed off her new swimsuit and then played in Grandma’s garden for a bit.  We came inside and used my great-great grandmother’s chest in some photos and Alexis wore her Minnie Mouse outfit!  You are so full of personality and beautiful just like your mother- I love you, Alexis! :) 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 15 16 17 18 19 20 28 29 40 40a 41

it’s hard to believe that it’s that time of year again but fall is right around the corner. every year our family mini sessions become more and more popular.. so much so, that this time we are extending this once-a-year event to TWO days! our location will be decked out for families of all sizes.. we will have hay bale seating, seasonal blankets and friendly dogs are welcome – you bring the leash and we will bring the treats :) available time slots will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis and trust us when we say that these fill up quickly! to reserve your spot, please contact us via email to rayevalion@gilletteportraitarts.com to secure your session on our schedule.

1 This year’s summer solstice was definitely a day of celebration!  Kate + Mehdi, who live in Florida, decided to tie the knot in their home state of Maryland at the beautiful Ocean Pines Yacht Club.  They both LOVE the beach and Mehdi actually proposed to Kate at their favorite spot in the sand in Palm Beach, FL. :)  As I walked up to the house to meet up with Kate and her girls that afternoon the house was echoing with laughter and excitement!  Every room of the house was bustling with pre wedding activities as the ladies from JSM Mobile Salon were doing the gals hair + makeup.  I loved the beautiful coral colors in the bridesmaids dresses and the bouquets Flowers by Alison made.  It was finally time for Kate to slip in to her gorgeous Mori Lee gown and for everyone to head over to the Yacht Club.  I was greeted by Mehdi and his friendly groomsmen who were relaxing and cheering to a special day!  We had a beautiful canopy of billowing clouds for the ceremony as guests made their way to the marina and found their seats.  Darin and Bob from Opposite Directions played from the top of the balcony as the bridal party made their way in.  Kate’s niece + nephew were the adorable dynamic duo/ring bearer and flower girl. :)  I couldn’t wait to see Mehdi’s reaction to seeing his beautiful bride for the first time as he waited at the top of the aisle.  After a few tears of joy and laughs Kate + Mehdi said “I do!”  Then the real party began!  Since they both traveled to Ocean City when they were younger and Kate worked at Harborside Bar & Grill for three years, they featured the famous Orange Crush as their wedding cocktail.  Sweet Disposition provided the delicious wedding cake and incorporated the summer solstice theme.  What happens when the groom is in a band (The Rough Drafts) and the couple has a 100 of their closest friends and family in one room?? A few dance offs, The Worm, Bride + Groom crowd surfing, freestyle raps and an awesome party! :D  Hook Productions kept the floor moving the whole night and played some of  Mehdi’s music!  It was such a fun evening! 1 This awesome couple is no stranger to our blog! :)  Liv photographed Jen + Jon’s wedding a few years ago and just last month I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing their first child!  Pearl Gaetana was born on July 1st at 4:30 Pm and weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces and was 19 inches long!  This sweet baby girl carries a family name and is surrounded by love.  I pulled up to their beautiful farmhouse and was greeted by the friendly faces of Cole + Tengu.  I photographed these two fur babies at our annual Santa Paws event and they supervised Pearl’s shoot. ;)  Together Jen + Jon have The Brimming Horn Meadery (check it out!!) where they create and  produce amazing meads and they even sent me home with some! :) I’m so happy for you and for your precious baby girl.  Thanks for inviting me in to your home and letting me spend the day with you all! 2 3 4 4a 4hjpg 4i 4l 5 6 8 9 12 15 17 19 20 21 22 22a 23 25 26 28 29 30

1whenever I get a call from my lovely friend sarah it makes me happy. just hearing from her is great as her life and travels seem to take her here, there and everywhere year round. but usually.. at least I’m always quietly hoping, that she’s contacting me to schedule a session. sarah is one of those clients that will do anything.. really, anything to get the photo that I have in my head become a reality. she has worn sundresses in the winter.. she has gone into the ocean in a formal gown – all with a smile and as excited as I am about the final result. to see her awesomeness in action during our last two sessions click here and here. this time we were both thinking along the lines of focusing more on a girl and her guitar and the simplicity that all of that means to sarah. we didn’t have to venture farther than right here in town to find some perfect locations and some beautiful light. the very next day, sarah was boarding a plane to germany and then heading back to NYC for school but I am looking so forward to the next text I receive from her that asks ‘what does your schedule look like?”

these sessions are becoming a regular here on the blog and it couldn’t make me happier! I am always in awe of the beauty and strength of our participants when we have our aerial shoots and this round was no exception. we even did a few acro poses which has my anxiously awaiting those sessions sometime in the near future. if you’ve never done aerial yoga, you should try it… at least once. I am a ‘land’ yoga devotee and to be honest it intimidated me a little bit – but I’m a big believer in giving things a try and doing it at least once and I loved it! if anything it avails a range of motion that I’ve simply not been able to achieve in my poses. and as you can see from all of the blogposts (see the other posts here and here) kids love it too! in fact chrissy offers class specifically for them and they are always full of excited young yogis :) for more information on aerial yoga and everything else offered at zenna, click here

This couple is so near and dear to me. I’ve known both Amanda and Adam for 16 years when we all met in 7th grade. Ever since Amanda and I were in the same class that year, we’ve been best friends, and I was lucky enough to have her as my matron of honor at my own wedding two years ago.

Four years ago, Amanda and Adam got married in New York City with a small ceremony. They later celebrated with family and friends a few months after they returned where my husband Derek and I photographed the reception. While Amanda wore a traditional wedding gown for the reception, she didn’t wear one on her actual wedding day. Last fall, Amanda and I started talking about what we would be doing with our wedding dresses since neither of us really wanted to keep them. I planned on donating mine, but Amanda had dreamed up an amazing trash the dress plan for herself and trail running!

We finally found a weekend to make the shoot a reality. Since Amanda didn’t have the typical wedding day-of photos from her own ceremony, we decided to take some classic getting ready and detail shots, as well as more traditional portraits among the running. I met up with them at the Lake William just outside of York, Pennsylvania. If you’ve never been – you should! It’s absolutely gorgeous there. Having run there countless times before, Amanda knew all the places she wanted to go that morning and each of them were beautiful. One of my favorite things about Amanda + Adam is that not only are they head over heels for each other, but they are also best friends. No matter where they are, or what they’re doing, they have a blast, and our session was no exception. We had so much fun running around the Lake William (I only fell once!) and I can’t wait to get back there again.
