I always have a blast when I get to spend time with this family!  I photographed Maya’s 1 year session + her 18 month session and last fall I met baby Ella for the first time and shot her newborn session.  I drove out to Monica + Tim’s farm in Snow Hill two weeks ago and was greeted by smiles and giggles from both of the munchkins.  Angel, the girls’ nanny and surrogate big sister, was able to join us for the last two sessions and she always gets the girls to laugh! They’ve been in front of my camera for a bit so they’re not camera shy- stubborn maybe, but not shy ;)  I’m so glad I was able to see you all again- I had a fun afternoon!  Love you all! xoxo

well, this isn’t exactly an e-session in the true sense… see caitlin and rob were already married in a very small and somewhat secret ceremony that kristie had the pleasure of documenting last year. since then we have kept in touch – running into them at firefly and out and about on the shore. so when they decided that they wanted to throw a shindig celebrating their marriage with all of their family and friends, we were so happy when they asked us to participate. when choosing a location for their e-session, caitlin told me that richmond was one of their favorite places and I thought it was a great idea. we met up at the hotel and followed a path that they had charted out the day before. it was so nice to get to spend this time with them and learn more about them and their relationship – they are such a wonderful couple who are clearly crazy about each other and best friends – they had me and each other laughing the whole evening! I had such an amazing time with them and can’t wait for their big day!

I first met this vivacious couple in a Starbucks cafe a few months ago right before they headed out of town to go watch the Olympics!  Sarah + Rick LOVE to travel and have been all over the world!  Rick actually proposed to Sarah in Germany on one of their vacations.  They explored a castle in the Alps and when they both reached the balcony Rick dropped to one knee and popped the question. :)  Last week we all got together for their engagement session in Baltimore and I witnessed the beautiful chemistry between them.  As we trekked the streets and docks of Canton, they were always making each other laugh and smiling.  I’m so happy for you both and can’t wait to see you on wedding day!

Tanya + Aaron are a wonderful couple and are expecting their little one in May- a boy!  This will be their forth son and I already know that he will be surrounded by so much love.  With his older brothers and so many friends and family members awaiting his arrival, he is sure to pull some heartstrings!  Tanya just had this beautiful glow about her and throughout the session I quickly learned that she and Aaron are best friends.  They made each other laugh and were always smiling at each other.  I had so much fun spending the afternoon with you two and can’t wait to meet him! :)

I love everything about this little guy- his tiny toes, the way his forehead wrinkles up when he follows my camera, the meaning behind his name and of course, his awesome parents!  Raye and I photographed Ashlyn + Bruce’s wedding last year on her family farm and two weeks ago I found myself turning left onto their lane and coasting up to the farm house.  I couldn’t wait to meet Sullie James, who was born on February 17th at 6:48 PM and weighed in at 7 pounds and 6 ounces.  Sullie is the name of Bruce’s friend and mentor from when he was little and is a very important person in their lives.  I think it is so wonderful to honor that!  When I walked in I was greeted by the fur babies, Hunter + Chase. :)  These pups have been in our studio before for our annual Santa Paws event and were just as energetic as ever!  I also couldn’t wait to see how Ashlyn + Bruce decorated the nursery.  I knew from how she put everything together for the wedding and from her boutique (Lark on the Boulevard) that Ashlyn definitely has a creative eye and wanted to see how Sullie’s room turned out.  With help from her mother, Ashlyn created the headboard and panels above the windows and is going to decorate the walls with her father’s bow + arrows from his Boy Scout days.  Sullie’s yawns are so adorable and he was even cute when he took time for a nap.  I’m so happy for you both and love baby Sullie!  I can’t wait to see him again! :)

cathy and rob don’t really do anything the traditional way, which I love about them. when I photographed their wedding last year, they had already been married for awhile – but they wanted to have an event to celebrate their love with their friends and family and I happily documented their wonderful day in gettysburg. then I found out that they were expecting and was really looking forward to working with them again – they are such a beautiful and inspiring couple who I am so happy to call friends. we met at wye island for their maternity session and we had plans… grand plans, for a birth story session and then of course for their daughter’s newborn session. see, we thought we had time – but baby victoria had plans of her own. a mere 6 days after our session, she was born. she was more than a little early, but she was healthy and apparently was tired of waiting to meet her amazing parents. so 19 days after our first session, I drove across the bridge for our second session – a first for me. I am so happy for all of you and so grateful that I’ve been able to be a small part of your journey together

Last week I shared with you Liv + Drew’s pre-deployment session and their maternity session taken mid February of this year.  It has been so wonderful to see my friend go through such a beautiful pregnancy and on February 27th I had the honor of being next to Liv in the delivery room along with her family as she gave birth to their first child, Logan Grady.  I got the phone call from Liv around 10 PM on the 26th that she was heading to the hospital because Logan was on his way!  She rode with her mother and Aunt Sherri and they met up with Drew’s mother, Kathleen and his brother Michael at the hospital.  Drew’s father arrived shortly after the birth.  I met up with everyone around 2:30 on the morning of the 27th and as I walked into the hospital room I felt all of the love surrounding Liv.  I know there were so many emotions running though everyone that morning, especially since Drew was in the middle of a 5 day mission.  He and Liv joked the week before that Logan would have to wait for Drew to get back before he made his appearance.  However, baby Logan had a plan all of his own! Liv and Drew talked about the birth beforehand and asked if his brother Michael could set up a GoPRo camera to film the birth.  Lovely Aunt Sherri was the lucky one to have it strapped to her head. ;) I was so happy Liv had such a huge support system and she always had someone’s hand to hold.  In between contractions we were trying to get ahold of Drew who was 8,000 miles away to let him know that his son was on the way!  Kathleen and Michael were finally able to connect to him on FaceTime and I instantly saw a wave of relief rush over Liv.  About 25 minutes later and a lot of pushing, Liv was finally able to hold Logan in her hands!  I’m so glad Drew was able to be there and see the birth of his son and offer words of encouragement to his beautiful wife as she brought Logan in to this world.  He was able to hear Logan’s cry and see the excitement and love in that room.  Logan Grady (the first grand child on both sides!) was born at 4:33 am and weighed 7 pounds 8 ounces and was 20 inches long.  Thank you to all of the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff at PRMC who helped us successfully capture this very special birth.  Liv + Drew, I’m so happy for you both and so blessed that I am able to be apart of your journey and was able to witness such an incredible moment in your lives.

I particularly enjoy maternity sessions, add in a current “furbaby” and I am super excited! Jennifer + Josh were no exception — their sweet beagle Audrey tagged along for a few photos. Audrey will be giving up her reign as only child soon as baby J arrives the end of this month. We lucked out with a particularly warm day in March for their session, St. Paddy’s Day weekend to be exact… I remember this because Jennifer sent me home with a delicious and I mean super yummy Guinness Brownie! Thank you both for such a fun afternoon. Can’t wait to meet baby J the end of this month for our newborn session!

If you follow our blog you probably saw Liv and Drew’s pre-deployment session two days ago.  My friend Liv and her husband Drew, who is currently serving overseas announced that they were expecting their first child they day Drew left for deployment last July.   I was lucky enough to know during their pre-deployment session and was so happy to hear the news!  While Drew has been deployed he and Liv have been able to chat and FaceTime to keep him updated on the progress of the baby.  They had already chosen the name Logan for a boy or girl and when Liv found out she was having a boy she and Drew decided on the name Logan Grady.  It has been such an amazing experience watching my friend go through a beautiful pregnancy.  We met up in the middle of February this year to capture these shots and Logan was born on February 27th.  Stay tuned to see the birth of this sweet little boy and all of the love and support Liv had during delivery- including Drew who was 7,000 miles away!  I’m so proud of you Liv, you are absolutely gorgeous!

when I was 11 years old, I was diagnosed with scoliosis. my initial fear was that I would have to wear one of those large and bulky braces (the only real treatment back then) and I dreaded it. my mother, always the fixer and problem solver, researched as much as she could and from a friend at her office she learned about the benefits of yoga as they pertained to my condition. during the early 80′s in syracuse I think that yoga practitioners were very few and far between.. at least mom couldn’t find one. so in addition to regular chiropractic care, mom found a book with all of the basic yoga poses. because I feared the brace that my doctor assured us was a definite possibility, I stretched, cat, cowed and downward dogged it every morning and evening. I was anything but serious about an actual yoga practice and as soon as my doctor said that things were looking pretty good, I slacked off… I was a teenager after all. fast forward many years and yoga was once again recommended to me in colorado for not only my back issues, but for overall stress relief and a peaceful mind. I quickly fell in love with the poses I once considered a chore as a kid and was just beginning to establish a practice when I moved back to the eastern shore. yoga fell to the wayside as real life happened and to be honest, I didn’t realize how much I missed (and needed) it until a place called zenna wellness was hatched. I had met my friend chrissy several years before and immediately liked her – she was so friendly, open and warm. but I had no idea as to the plans she had in store! I had started hearing the small town chit chat that always happens when something new is coming and there was rumor of a yoga studio opening in berlin – so a few weeks later during their third friday art stroll I searched out zenna and to my very happy surprise, chrissy was the owner. I went to my first class a couple of weeks later and have never left – all of the instructors are amazing and just the general vibe of the space is pretty special. I am so grateful to have found such a wonderful studio with so many lovely people that have helped me reestablish and grow my practice. in addition to zumba, pilates and tai chi, zenna also offers something that very few places do and that’s aerial yoga.. for me to try to describe it would be foolish – it’s definitely something you need to experience first hand – but from a photographer’s perspective, it’s beauty is what drew me in. so several weeks ago, chrissy and I created an event and invited people from our yoga community to sign up to come practice and get photographed. it was such a wonderful experience, I think for all of us, but I know it was for me. there was so much grace, a little cursing at me as I made the ladies hold poses a few ticks longer than they may have wanted to .. and laughter – lots and lots of laughter. due to the popularity, chrissy and I are busy making plans for round two! like zenna on facebook for updates :)
