when the first email that I receive from a prospective client has ‘he put a ring on it!’ as the subject line, I am immediately intrigued. once I opened it, I read that ashleigh had been following the blog for quite a while and was also friends with some of our favorite clients. after some schedule checking, we set up a consultation for the earliest possible date for her and kevin to come in. I was actually out back at my jeep when they got here so kris welcomed them into the studio and once I came in, ashleigh gave me the best hug ever… needless to say, I couldn’t wait to hear all about their big day. the second sign that we were going to be a perfect fit was that they had a trapper keeper.. yes, a trapper keeper. I didn’t even know that they made those anymore! and even better, it was named ‘kevin and ashleigh’s brilliant and blissful trapper keeper of love’… kris and I were smitten. when telling us about their wedding, they said that it was all going to take place at her family home in virginia, appropriately named homeplace, and we decided that shooting their esession there would be ideal so that I could see it.. plus it’s a very special place to them. every year, her family has a event called ‘scottoberfest’ and we scheduled the session for the day after that. I didn’t have a clue how big this bash was – as I drove down the drive I saw tents dotting the landscape and a lot of folks, with their dogs by their side, enjoying their morning coffee. as I was introduced to everyone, more warm hugs and big smiles greeted me – I love this family!! then I got a chance to explore with ashleigh and kevin, loving everything I saw. from the fields, to the dock and all of the outbuilding, it was a photographer’s dream but it paled in comparison to the fun I had with them. they laugh… all.the.time. they are so clearly in love and are such a perfect match that working with them was ridiculously easy from the first image I snapped. I couldn’t be more excited to work with them again in that magical place…

thank you for such a wonderful morning! it was wonderful to meet your friends and family and spend more time with the two of you – I can’t wait to see you again! :)

Dewey, Delaware has a special meaning to this lovely couple.  Carrie + Sean, both outdoor enthusiasts, met while training for Bike to The Beach- a 108 mile bike ride from DC to Dewey Beach to raise money for Autism Speaks.  So when it came time to select a location for their wedding, it only seemed natural to hold it at the place that brought them together.  They love to travel and have been everywhere from the waters of the Galapagos to the mountains of Canada.  A lot of their close friends and family came in from all over to celebrate this joyous day with them.  Mother Nature kept us on our toes with little sprinkles here and there- but that didn’t seem to bother anyone or lower the excitement of the day.  I met up with Carrie at the beach house on Cullen Street and was greeted by her wonderful bridesmaids.  Everyone helped Carrie into her dress as Sean suited up for their first look. I love when our couples choose to partake in this intimate moment before the ceremony.  Afterwards, the whole bridal party headed to the boards of Rehoboth for some fun shots and Carrie + Sean had many cheers from passersby.  Then it was time to tie the knot!   Their friend JP played the guitar as Carrie’s dad walked her down the aisle.  The rain held off for us till the reception- seems like it always works out that way. ;) Everyone enjoyed a lovely meal prepared by Big Fish Grill and John from Eclipse Entertainers kept the dance floor packed the whole night.  Carrie + Sean, I’m so happy for you both and can’t believe how beautiful of a day your wedding turned out to be.  This was another one of your many adventures and I’m sure it won’t be the last!  Thanks for letting me be a part of it.

if  you follow the blog, then you are familiar with the sauser family. from their esession to their beautiful wedding and every session (here and here) we have done since, each year on their anniversary date, kathleen and ray are what we call around here a part of our ‘client family’. now if you are friends with me on facebook, you will also probably know ray as he and I often banter back and forth about his criminal driving behavior, his poor taste in football and his obsession with my lawn ornaments… but I digress. in all seriousness, I love these two a lot and have been so happy to become close friends with them since our first session on assateague. in the years I have known them, I have seen them experience the true joy of their wedding day and later with the arrival of their son coleston. I also know that they have had more than their fair share of sad events but they always handle these things together, side by side.. completely supporting the other. they are also two of the funniest people I know and I can’t get through either a visit with them or a session without crying tears of laughter. as usual, I loved our time together during this most recent session and marveled in how big coleston has already gotten – he’s so curious, adventurous and completely adorable. although I know that ray’s driving habits will bring you to our county courthouse soon, I can’t wait to see you all again!

love you guys!!! xoxo

about a month ago I headed with lyndsey, her mom and a few other of her friends to assateague island to do her bridal session. it was a simply gorgeous evening… ideal temperature, light breeze.. perfect! we started under the piers and at first I have to admit, I was kind of nervous. lyndsey’s wedding wasn’t too far off and I wanted her dress to remain spotless.. but I had some ideas. so I asked her if she would be willing to sit down – she was. and then I inquired if maybe she would lay down? absolutely, she said. all of these things we did before anyone else could say anything and her mom would turn her back to us, while nervously saying ‘I don’t see anything!’ :)  lyndsey was so awesome and even though I didn’t get her near the ocean (although I’m sure she would have done everything short of jumping in had I asked) we had such a great time. her wedding to justin was this past saturday which means that I can finally post these publicly. I had such a wonderful time with all of you – both at the beach and at your wedding last weekend and am pretty excited to get this dress with you and your horse soon – that’s okay, right mom?

I never hope for rain on any of our couples’ wedding day (even though it is good luck!) but I especially didn’t want it to rain for Sarah + Chris.  When we shot their engagement session earlier this year we were dodging rain clouds and even had a few sprinkles.  This couple is so amazing and fun that even if it poured on their big day they wouldn’t have let it ruined a single moment.  Thankfully the precipitation only happened during the morning and the sun even debuted as we were taking family portraits.  Sarah and Chris got their good luck rain after all and we still got to ‘play’ outside. :)  I was so excited when I arrived at the Historic Oakland to meet up with Sarah + Chris.  They didn’t see each other before the wedding but they snuck away to exchange hand written notes before the ceremony.  I loved this moment and seeing the tears of joy trickle down Sarah’s cheek.  They were able to exchange their vows outside and everyone headed in afterwards for afternoon mimosas.  I love how they incorporated their love for theatre into their seating cards and table numbers!  Sarah + Chris were surrounded by close family and friends who helped them celebrate this joyous occasion.  The foyer of Oakland probably hadn’t heard that many laughs until this wedding. Sarah + Chris, I am so happy for you both and so glad I was able to share this special day with you!

This stunning family is no stranger to us here at GPA.  We love to show them off on the blog and I am so thankful to be able to call them my friends. :)  I shot Jen + Nick’s wedding a few years ago and earlier this year met their son Andrew for the first time for his newborn session.  I kept seeing Jen post photos on her Facebook page this past summer of little Andrew and was anxious for our next shoot- his blue eyes are a perfect Sapphire and his smile is just so adorable! We all decided it was time for another photo shoot and Jen, Nick + Andrew ventured down to the Shore.  This baby has the perfect temperament and was so relaxed the whole session!  We were doing jumping jacks and backflips to try to make him crack up but he just didn’t seem to have a care in the world.  Not that I’m complaining :)  I had so much fun with you guys and can’t wait till next time- I’m sure he’ll be walking! :)

See you guys soon! xoxo

jamie and deb traveled from indiana to our little town of snow hill to tie the knot at our courthouse. after contacting me through facebook and sharing their plans with me, we decided that commemorating such a special event would be a perfect session for the beach – so off to assateague we went. it was a perfect evening and although we were keeping an eye out for ponies that never made an appearance, I had such a wonderful time with them. their easy laughter, little jokes and constant smiling told me so much about this couple that I had only met day… jamie and deb are so wonderful together and I am so happy for them

I wish you a lifetime of happiness together :)

meghan and drew are one of those couples that I feel like I’ve known for years, although really it’s only been since their esession but we immediately hit it off. not only are they dog lovers who have included their adorable puggle henry in every session, but drew is also a avid steelers fan (always a plus in my book!). when I photographed drew sister kiera’s wedding to patrick, again – I felt right at home with the families and knew that once october came that I would have the pleasure of seeing all of these wonderful folks one more time. the day was gorgeous! unseasonably warm and an ideal day for a wedding. I met up with meghan and her girls as laura spent the early afternoon with drew and his groomsmen. henry, of course, spent his day equally between the two locations… sharing his love with both of them. and once it was time for the first look, everyone gathered on the beach to share in meghan and drew’s excitement. after some photos by the ocean, we were off to baywood for the ceremony. I’ve shot several weddings here and it’s always beautiful but there was something about this day that was particularly special. maybe it was the attention to detail in the decor or the vibrant color theme, but the whole venue just had such a great energy about it that everyone seemed to soak up. their ceremony was punctuated with happy tears and personal touches and as they said their vows, it was as though no one else was there. drew never let go of meghan’s hand and as he handed her a handkerchief she giggled, took a deep breath and smiled so happily. as always, the bridal party photos were so much fun with this crew and then we headed to the reception. they had included everything from a caricature artist to puggle cookies and had hired a band that kept the dance floor full until they exited under a shower of sparklers and well wishes from family and friends. I was SO happy to spend this day with them and am proud to call the big and crazy bunch of them friends..

I know that you two are going to be so happy and travel an amazing path together. it has been wonderful working with all of you this past year and I wish you all much love! xoxo

recently I had the joy of getting to know the fabulous sachs family! on a beautiful october morning, I met with michael and jennifer, their three boys matthew, ben, and zach, and pups lacey and ringo for a morning full of laughs at their home in owings mills. from zach’s giggles to ben’s photobombs and matthew’s tricks on the swing set, it was such a joy spending the morning with these boys! this family was so much fun to work with and definitely kept me laughing behind the camera! it was so wonderful getting to know you all and I hope to work with you again!

If you follow the blog you probably remember this lovely couple.  Mara + Michael had their engagement session in a DC library to tie in how they met and incorporated some special touches on their wedding day.  I couldn’t wait to see Mara’s dress in person after she showed me a sneak peek on her phone- with Michael far away from us of course. :)  On the big day, I met up with her and the girls on the campus of Georgetown University.  The grounds and architecture were absolutely breath taking and added to the elegant feel of Mara + Michael’s wedding.  Their good friend Michele officiated the wedding for them in St. William’s Chapel.  I started to tear up when I heard the emotional, personal vows exchanged between Mara + Michael.  I think it’s so special when couples write their own vows!  After the ceremony Mara, Michael and I headed up to the top of the hill overlooking the campus.  Just like during their esession, I saw the comfort and love between Mara + Michael and it was like time had stopped for them and they became lost in the moment.  Family and friends headed to Grillfish restaurant where they indulged in delicious food and special martinis.  I loved the handmade library checkout seating place cards for the guests.  I have never seen them done that way before and think it was a perfect way to tie in the library on wedding day.   Everyone danced the night away and celebrated the new union between Mara + Michael.  I am so happy for you both and hope you had a relaxing time in the Bahamas.  Thanks for letting me be apart of your special day!

Thanks you to all of the vendors who helped make Mara + Michael’s big day possible:
