meet meredith! one of our seniors from the salisbury school. I had been looking forward to this session ever since I first spoke with meredith’s mom, jeanette. she told me that meredith wanted a fun session on the beach but that she also wanted to incorporate her love of dance – specifically ballet. so when we got to our first location and they pulled out a tutu from the back of the truck, I knew we were going to have a great session. meredith is one of the nicest girls I’ve worked with and was willing to do anything I suggested (note: if you tell me you can dance, I will make you jump. a lot.) we had such a beautiful afternoon to shoot and I had such a wonderful time getting to know her :)

thanks for a great day meredith – I hope you have an amazing senior year!

annie and brian met the way that most of my friends met their spouse… in a restaurant. having been in the business for a long time, I know the camaraderie that happens between people in that industry and the bonds that form last a lifetime. over half of my bridal party were friends I made while waiting tables, so I loved this part of annie and brian’s story! we even spent part of their esession at the restaurant where they met as well as some other fun places. annie and brian are a couple who make each other laugh and light up and as I drove to annapolis, I was looking so forward to spending this day with them. as I hung out with annie and her maid of honor, kristie went to meet up with brian and his brother. both of them had written letters to each other to read before we headed the church and it was a prefect preamble to their first look. after the wedding we headed to savage mill for the reception and having never worked there before, I fell in love with it. both inside and the grounds around this venue were so distinctive and cool – an old railroad bridge which now serves as a walking path and is no longer an active track was an ideal place for us to go for photos. I may or may not have jumped a fence from a safe path to the original track to get a shot… but I digress.  once the reception began, heartfelt toasts and romantic gestures kicked off a wonderful night. annie and brian were inseparable as they greeted family and friends and danced the night away. we are so very happy for you both!

kristie and I were so happy to spend this day with you! we wish you a lifetime full of laughter of love!

If you read the blog you’ll notice that most of our weddings are “across the bridge” and while we love the diversity of all the different venues over there, we’re learning that we have more and more amazing locations in our own backyard.  When I first met with Melba and she shared that she and Jordy were getting married on a riverboat- well that was a first and I couldn’t wait!  The first time I met Jordy (and their adorable pups Murph + Kinsey) was at their e-session.  We all hit it off as we spent the day in several different spots around the shore.  When wedding day finally rolled around, I knew that they had some awesome surprises in store.  The first, at least for me, was what Jordy and his guys were wearing- complete with fedoras, they set the tone for the riverboat theme. :)  Melba too, wore a beautiful vintage gown and her grandmother’s broach in her hair.  As they got ready for first look the whole family gathered outside to watch.  Normally a moment between only the bride and groom, having everyone there seemed perfect for this intimate wedding.  The  special touches that they had planned continued at their ceremony on the banks of the Choptank River as bagpipes preceded Melba’s walk down the aisle.  As she held her bouquet of flowers designed by her grandmother, Melba + Jordy exchanged their handwritten vows and celebrated their love in front of their closest family and friends.

Melba + Jordy, I’ve had such a wonderful time working with you and getting to know you and your family.  Thank you for a truly original and special day and for helping me discover a new treasure on the Eastern Shore! :)  xoxo Kristie

I love new york city… l.o.v.e it! I would go to the city to literally watch paint dry if it meant I could spend any time there. so when presented the opportunity for a quick overnight stay, I was already onboard. and then to realize that I was going a my friend mary’s guest to an invitation only party was kind of cool. THEN when it’s a bridal fashion week party, thrown by some call the wedding queen, martha stewart?? well frankly, I didn’t care how long my to-do list was – I was heading north to NYC! we got to the city a little early so we strolled a bit (I can find an anthropologie anywhere!) and then headed to martha stewart’s omnimedia building. immediately upon entering the event space it was apparently that we were going to be in for a lovely evening. an open bar with some of the coolest cocktails I’ve ever seen, perfect little bites of delicious food every time we turned around, and even a manicure station. then there was the folks we saw and met. one of my wedding heroes, sylvia weinstock who is a true pastry artist, randy from ‘say yes to the dress’, austin scarlett from project runway (and I’ll admit it… I got as excited as a tween seeing justin beiber when I saw austin, he’s been my favorite ever since season one) and of course, martha. it was such a fun night and a nice little break during the height of our season.  thank you mary!! xoxo

there are some weddings that I look forward to all year – whether it’s the couple, the time of year or the venue, I just anxiously await the big day. with erin and brent, everything about their wedding was amazing. first, they are one of the coolest couples I’ve had the pleasure of working with. during their esession, they were just so relaxed and fun to work with. second, I love fall weddings – and apparently our couples do too because this has been our busiest season ever. and lastly, their venue was clipper mill – hands down one of my favorite places to photograph! erin and brent met when she went to go see a band where she knew the vocalist – brent was the bass player and they’ve been together ever since. when I met up with erin, she was so calm as she and her 2 girls were getting ready. I loved everything she had designed for the wedding… the colors, flowers and her dress were just perfect. at the reception, an awesome band that had traveled in from north carolina provided the perfect backdrop for a party that was designed to bring all of their friends and family together – from the family style seating to a pie buffet in lieu of a wedding cake. all of their guests were some of the nicest people I’ve met – and fun! the dance floor was never empty and I’ve got to say that I’m kind of surprised that no one took a spontaneous dip in the pool :) I had such a wonderful time with everyone, especially erin and brent, and loved every minute of their wedding!

thank you again for such a memorable and wonderful day! I wish you a lifetime of love, laughter and great music!! I hope you had an amazing time in iceland!!

andrea and heath were one of our favorite couples last year – mostly because they are just super nice and clearly are head over heels for each other, but also because they handled a really crappy weather forecast on their wedding day with humor and grace. see their location had one of the most stunning views for fall foliage as far as the eye could see and their ceremony and portraits were to be overlooking this view – but as kris and I drove to meet up with andrea, it was clear that the rarely used plan b was mandatory. it was just raining, it wasn’t just cold, it was dumping slushy snow. all that was important to them was to celebrate their love for one another with their friends and family and tie the knot! :)

  • where and when did you get married? Heath and I got married at Mountain Branch Golf Course in Joppa, Maryland on October 29, 2011
  • was there a particular reason for choosing your venue?  We chose the venue because it had a relaxing, rustic feel to it and his aunt got married there several years before and we just loved it
  • who were your vendors?  our vendors were Jacob Jensen of Absolute Entertainment who rocked the dance floor all night, Wessels Florist in Ellicott city and Yai Yai’s Bakery. Everyone was very kind and the flower arrangement were unbelievable.
  • what’s the best piece of advice you could give to a couple currently planning their wedding? relax, have fun and always have a backup plan for weather in Maryland :)
  • what was your most memorable moment(s)? Obviously the memorable moment for us was having the unpredictable snowfall in October and having to adjust to last minute plans. We had a blast either way and were so happy that we were married, I don’t think we felt the frostbite on our toes. Definitely will never forget taking photos in the snow :)
  • where did you honeymoon?  we honeymooned in Cabo. it was sunny and 80′s everyday so we were able to escape the cold weather.

it seems like I’ve been across the bridge a lot this year for weddings, so it was so nice to spend amber and justin’s wedding day close to home – especially with a couple as great as these two! I immediately loved them when we photographed their esession on chincoteague – no request by me was too silly and they completed trusted me and I knew wedding day would be all that session was and then some. mel and I met up with amber as she got ready at the ceremony location the salisbury university alumni house. this is truly a hidden gem that I never knew about, the house is classically beautiful but what makes this place awesome are the backyard gardens… SO pretty! as amber walked down the aisle on her dad’s arm, she had justin only had eyes for each other. the weather was perfect and we had some of the best light for their portraits together. mel and I simply couldn’t be happier for them and loved spending this day with them, their friends and families.

I’m SO happy for you both!! wishing you much happiness and joy

As you all know – I am a hopeless romantic. So when I heard how Colin proposed to Vanessa my heart melted!  Vanessa + Colin love to travel and one of their adventures was to Tromso, Norway which is right inside of the Arctic Circle.  One night they went outside of the city in hopes of seeing the Northern Lights.  As soon as they left the city the lights began to appear.  They found a snowbank and as they lay gazing at the lights Colin proposed right then and there!  They got married at the lovely Woodend Sanctuary and had gorgeous weather.  Vanessa was absolutely stunning in her gown and I fell in love with her bouquet – it was full of succulents!  She and Colin were joined by many family and friends, most of whom they had not seen in quite sometime.  I was so excited when they told me they wanted to have a First Look and we had their close family peer in from the window panes to see their first glances on wedding day.  I’m so happy they were able to share this day with so many people that are close to their hearts and that I was able to witness this special occasion.  :) It was an amazing day!

Thank you so much for having me share this special day with you two.  I wish you a lifetime of love and am so happy for you both!
