meet amelia and joel! they are a couple who had one of the most personal and special weddings I have ever had the honor to photograph. from their ceremony location to the dog treat bar at the reception – every detail was carefully and thoughtfully included in their big day. I had such a great time with them and hope to have the chance to see them again soon!

  • where and when did you get married? Easton, MD – May 21,2011
  • was there a particular reason for choosing your venue? Our ceremony was held at the Third Haven Friends Meeting in Easton, MD. I (the bride) grew up attending this meeting. The Meeting House, was built in 1684 by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), making it one of the oldest continuously operating sites of worship in the United States! The reception was held at the Tidewater Inn in the Gold Room. An absolute fantastic venue – beautiful space, friendly staff, great value too.
  • who were your vendors? invitations – handmade but made with Paper Source card stock and templates. Bridal + Attendant Gowns – Pattrapon Bridal (kensington, md). Hair – Studio2 (easton, md). Flowers – Seaberry Farms (federalsburg, md). Catering – The Tidewater Inn (easton, md). Music – Hero Entertainment. Band – Paradise (perry hall, md)
  • what’s the best piece of advice you could give to a couple currently planning their wedding? I would advise all soon-to-be brides and grooms to remember that whatever family squabbles you have over the invite list, the beverage selection, or the ceremony readings, will all fade away by the time you get to your big day. To that end, you should do what is most important to you as a couple. Do whatever best captures your style and spirit. If the financial backing for the wedding (parents? other family?) disagrees with you, discuss whether that particular issue is truly a deal-breaker for their support. Typically it is not. Stand your ground. As an addendum to that… Have no guilt about whatever your splurge item is. Whether you choose fancy flowers, a world-renowned DJ, or your own fireworks show, you chose that splurge for a reason and it is important. The only other piece of significant advice I would have is to take some pictures before the ceremony. It is an incredibly intimate and important time for the bride and groom to spend together on a day you will be interacting with many, many people. Take that time to enjoy each others company, and no-one else. Thanks to Raye and her crew, the photos will be some of the best you take the whole day.
  • what was your most memorable moment(s)? I loved our ceremony. It was one of the most spiritual, emotional, and important times in my entire life. Surrounded by the most important people in our lives, we were able to demonstrate our commitment to one another in such a joyful and personal way. Though having my maid of honor and now sister-in-law belt out a Ke$ha song (with our band as backup) ranks up there as well… Everyone had so much fun at the reception. That was definitely on of our top priorities for the big day.
  • if you had it to do over again, would you change anything and what/why?  I literally don’t think I would change a thing, except for maybe worrying through the year-plus planning process. I couldn’t have been happier with every single one of our vendors. I wrote testimonials for every last one of them after our wedding. We worked hard to seek out good, affordable vendors and it definitely paid off.
  • where did you honeymoon?Le Blanc Spa & Resort in Cancun, Mexico – I have to admit that I just logged onto trip adviser, picked ‘Mexico – All Inclusive’ and booked the top-rated resort. It was a great choice. We spent the entire week doing mostly nothing… sitting on the beach, reading, drinking mojitos… we definitely needed to recuperate after all of the festivities. We couldn’t have picked a better spot for that.

meet grant – our class of 2013 snow hill high senior rep! I’ve known grant’s parents for a few years as they live here in snow hill and were regulars at the palette. we decided to shoot on grant’s birthday actually and we had a beautiful day for it. I knew that grant wanted to integrate his interests including baseball and the guitar so we headed to snow hill high first. then we went to byrd park and the banks of the pocomoke river – he was so fun to work with and I had a great time with him :)

I hope you have a wonderful senior year!

When I first met Jen at her consultation we immediately hit it off.  I was really looking forward to meeting Jon at their engagement session, and was bummed out when I got to Pemberton Park and saw the black storm clouds rolling in.  We decided to duck in out of the rain at EVO, that way I could at least meet Jon and it wasn’t a waisted trip.  What was supposed to be a quick chat turned into a three hour conversation about absolutely everything.  When I went to meet them at their next esession, it felt like I was going to meet up with old friends.  We had another great afternoon together; full of laughter and photographs.  I have had such a wonderful time getting to know both of them better, and I couldn’t be more excited for their wedding.

Thanks for a wonderful day, and for the bottle of Mead! Can’t wait to see you two in a few weeks!!

I am so excited for this wedding! when I first met caitlin and grant at the studio, grant was kind of quiet – well, let’s face it… the guys usually are. normally during my initial consultation with a couple, it’s almost always me and the bride chatting away – not only about their photography but also the ‘girlie’ stuff like color schemes, flowers and cake as the groom sits patiently by. so when I met up with the two of them at the marina in annapolis, I already knew they were a great couple, but was extra happy when I realized how playful and funny they are. the clouds loomed but we were able to shoot around downtown and on the grounds of the naval academy, where their november wedding will take place, before the rain fell.  I had such a good time with them and can’t wait until their big day!

thanks again for a great afternoon and I will see you soon!!

When Melba + Jordan mentioned they were “laid back and crunchy” in their questionnaire I knew their session was going to be original and fun!  They both love outdoor activities and their boxer babies, Kinsey + Murphy.  We decided to capture both during their e-session.  I met them at their new home nestled in the woods to grab some family photos with their awesome pups.  We reenacted Jordan’s proposal – check out the beautiful antique ring!  Afterwards we headed down to Snow Hill for an evening on the water- literally!  They both like white water rafting but the closest to Level V rapids I could find on the flat Eastern Shore was the Pocomoke River. :) Our studio is located right next to Pocomoke Canoe Company and Barry was so kind to let us use one of his canoes for the shoot.  I had so much fun that night and am so excited for their wedding day, part of which is going to be on a River Boat- how cool is that?!

I had such a fun time with you guys- can’t wait for October!! :)

there are certain families, once you meet them, where you know they would be awesome to photograph. such was the case when I met the naleppa’s – this is a family who clearly adores each other and you rarely see one member without another. so when I got an instant message from daughter adrienne saying that they were all going to be together and at the beach and could I come over for a session? absolutely! it was mom peggy’s birthday and it was said that she had wanted a session of all of them for a long time. daughter renee who lives is san francisco was back east, we had a beautiful evening and it was a wonderful night (well, perhaps except for the biting flies – seriously.. they bite! dad dan thoughtfully lightly kicked sand around my bare ankles as I worked lol) since I first met the naleppas, miss addison has been born and has grown up to be such an adorable little girl – so easy to work with and always smiling. I had such a great time and was happy to give peggy a gift to last a lifetime!

when I look at a questionable weather forecast the morning of a wedding, I always feel for my couples. so many weddings and especially ceremonies are planned for outside this time of year and this was the case for kali and carlos. as I got to her house, everyone was watching the sky. I knew that on the shore it was constant rain, but on the western shore you couldn’t tell for sure. what I love about our brides is that despite uncertainties, they are focused on what’s important: marrying the love of their lives and celebrating that with family and friends. unfortunately once ceremony time came, everything was moved onto the patio of the maryland yacht club – still very pretty! and I was so happy that the weather cleared in time for us to do photos on the water’s edge. we were even blessed with one of the prettiest sunsets!

I had such a wonderful day with you! to see your love shine through the wind and the rain was truly a joy!

meet the garrett family! a while back mom crystal emailed me saying that she and her family were looking to have some photos done while down in OC on vacation. she has been coming here since she was little and wanted to document her and her family’s love of the beach. she’s also expecting! so we took this opportunity to snap a few ‘belly’ shots as well. this whole family was so great to work with – I loved the girls big sister t-shirts and I can tell how excited they are for girl #3! youngest daughter (for now) alex was such a ham and was cracking me up the whole session. I hope to see you again when you visit the beach and meet the newest member of your family!
