SO excited to feature deborah and aram this week – they are an amazing couple with such a touching story. their wedding was beautiful and one of my favorites. this past march they won our valentines day contest and if you click here, you’ll understand why. I am so happy to know them and call them friends!

  • where and when did you get married? Aram and I were married on june 26, 2010 at my parent’s house in cambridge
  • was there a special reason for choosing your venue? I knew as soon as my parents bought the house that I wanted to get married there. thankfully, Aram agreed with me
  • what was your most memorable moment(s)? it sounds cliched, but the whole day was pure magic. because of what we had been through with my cancer and it’s treatment, the wedding felt like a celebration not only of Aram and me and our love, but of life and all it’s amazingness
  • if you had it to do over again, would you change anything and if so, what/why? I had so much fun that I wouldn’t change anything. that being said if I had an unlimited amount of money (and really accommodating friends and family), I would love to have a series of wedding celebrations, just to try different party styles (destination one time, a black tie affair the next….)
  • where did you honeymoon? Aram and I didn’t go on our honeymoon right away, as I had to go through radiation treatment first. after that was finished we spent about two weeks in Bali, Indonesia and it was absolutely amazing.

When I heard that Lauren and Steve were getting married in a 30 room mansion on the beach I was more than stoked!  Even though heavy rains caused the wedding to be moved inside- everyone had an amazing time.  lauren’s uncle john spent months to create an awesome 9 layer cupcake tree (gorgeous!) and Hook Productions kept the dance floor packed!  Lauren’s dress was stunning! It had gathered flowers over the shoulder that cascaded down the back.  Steve and Lauren met at Steve’s restauraunt a few years ago and knew they were meant to be.  I was so excited they chose to partake in a “first look”- they are always so touching and I wasn’t disappointed this time either. :)  I always love capturing the moment when a bride and groom first see each other on the day they’ve been waiting for for so long.  Thank you Lauren and Steve for letting me share that day with you.

Married! :)

I wish you both love and happiness! :)

this was my kind of wedding! from the centerpieces that were a collective effort from the whole family, the beautiful location, a bluegrass band and to a tandem bike - emilie and jonathon’s wedding was amazing! I did a lot of my initial communication with this couple through emilie’s father pete. he lives in chestertown and was designated planner as they are in medical school in oregon. when emilie got the chance, she traveled back east and I met up with her and pete to do a walk through of the chester river yacht and country club which is beautiful and I was so excited to return for their wedding day. they did a first look at pete’s house that told me everything I needed to know about them as a couple - they are so sweet and in love that it made my heart smile. then we stopped on our way to the club to take advantage of the charming locations that are everywhere in chestertown. once at the club, rain was looming but they took a chance and proceeded with the planned outdoor ceremony – and no rain! this wedding had so many personal touches and was full of so much love and friendship – and emilie and jonathon? they simply couldn’t stop smiling and laughing, soaking it all in.

congratulations and thank you SO much for the centerpiece! it’s taken up residence at the studio and we love it - I wish you so much happiness!

if you read my monday moments a few weeks back, you know that sky is basically family. she is the daughter of one of my best friends heidi. I have literally known her since she was born and I love her dearly. because of this I admit from coming from a place of complete bias when I say that she is one of the kindest and talented people I know. she has so many interests from poetry to music to fashion and has real passion and excitement about her future. I always look so forward to photographing her, not only because she is clearly beautiful but also because it allows us to spend time together and have fun. I am going to her neck of the woods in upstate new york next month and we are going to play around with some edgy, editorial looks and I can’t wait!

love you girlie + can’t wait to see you soon! xoxo

So…  celebrated my birthday yesterday with my family.  As I was sitting there holding my warm mug of tea my grandfather said, as he does every year on my birthday, “I remember this day, it was a long time ago, well not that long ago…” For those of you who may not know me very well, I was born 14 weeks early.  As I listened to his memories of the NICU at Johns Hopkins, I realized just how lucky I was to be able to celebrate my birthday at all.  When I was born everyone was so excited because I was not only my parent’s first child, I was also the first grandchild.  Despite all the excitement there was also worry that I wouldn’t make it.
I look back on my young life and am so grateful that I grew up from the 2 pound 3 ounce version of me that my family remembers so fondly.  I have spent my most recent years in school, discovering my true passion behind the lens, and making memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life.  Many children born as premature as I was aren’t always as lucky.
Our family’s luck held out until yet again 12 years ago when my cousin was born… 14 1/2 weeks early.  He was faced with many more obstacles than I was (boys don’t usually fare as well as girls), but remained as stubborn as I to stick around.  As he stayed in Johns Hopkins for the next 3 months my family was on our own little emotional roller coaster, and when he finally came home it was like all the holidays and birthdays rolled into one.  Through the last  few years he and I have grown so close that many think he is my little brother, and although he may get on my nerves some days, I couldn’t imagine life without him.  We have overcome a lot together, and I cannot wait to tell him all about it when he is older.
If you are ever given the opportunity to donate to the March of Dimes, please do so. Your generous contributions may help another miracle baby beat the odds.
I was blessed to blow out the candle on my Smith Island cake this year, and although I don‘t know all that this next year has in store for me, I am so excited to see where it leads!

I was so excited for Maria and Ryan’s wedding after I met them for their engagement shoot in Alexandria.  I knew wedding day was going to be a blast!  :)  They were high school sweethearts and even the best man and maid of honor said that everyone had been waiting for this day.  The weather was absolutely perfect and the ceremony was gorgeous overlooking the bay at Lighthouse Sound.    Maria and Ryan decided to have a “first look” and their reaction to finally seeing each other made me tear up.  It is so apparent that Maria and Ryan are truly best friends and completely in love. :)  The City Florist did an amazing job with the flowers and Cake Art designed an elegant three tiered work of art.  I am so happy I was able to be apart of their special day.

I loved her shoes!

Married! :)

Thank you so much for having me be apart of your long-awaited and highly anticipated day.  You both looked great and I wish you nothing but happiness and love.

mike and i have rented the house that we live in for four years now and we love our “little house” but it’s never really felt like “home” – mostly because we weren’t allowed to paint or really add any of our own touches. but when my landlord found out that i was pregnant, she got super excited because this was the house that she had lived in as a newlywed and where she and her husband had their first baby – so it was a pretty sentimental moment for her to see us going down the same road. i think it was also when she finally realized that we weren’t just renting this house until “something better” came along, but that we were starting our family there.

when we started planning for bella’s arrival, i asked her if she would mind if we painted the house to make it feel for cozy and more like us – the perfect little nest to welcome home baby. this time, she agreed!

so, once summer started to wind down, mike and i took trip after trip to home depot’s paint department until we had decided on the perfect colors, the colors that were just “us.” after a few weeks, we had made our decisions. then it was time for some serious spring cleaning. we threw things away, took down all the window treatments and washed them, scrubbed all of the walls and baseboards, brainstormed ideas for how to put everything back together.

then, we invited a few friends over and got to work!

as anyone, and mike specifically, can tell you, i’m not a very patient person and i HATE having my house torn apart – a big reason i’ve always hated painting. so looking at my house this past week as we’ve been getting ready for the BIG PAINTING DAY has been challenging, to say the least. but i’ve tried not to get worked up about it because i knew that when i saw the fresh coat of paint on the walls, it would be so worth it!!

and boy was it!
