it seems like only yesterday that we were in this photobooth in vegas but it was all the way back in march – 2010 has flown by! so much has happened and we are SO excited to welcome 2011. we are hiring new team members, renovating the studio, going back to vegas (woohoo!!) going on a photo roadtrip to north carolina and basically preparing for our biggest year ever. 2010 brought us some of the most amazing people into our lives and we have loved every moment. on this last day of 2010 we wanted to feature some of our favorite moments with the best clients in the world! we are so grateful and blessed to document your joy and are better people and artists for having met you. we wish all of the best in love, laughter and life together to our 2010 couples! much love, raye & kristie

so the day after the snow, I was still wanting to take advantage of the beautiful landscape and light and one of my seniors, the beautiful amy jo agreed to help me out. we found a spot kind of in the middle of nowhere to shoot – I was very grateful for sadie (my nickname for the best jeep in the world) as we made our way a long the back roads. the light was so buttery and yummy and amy jo was workin’ it!

it seems appropriate to write a post about snow after the slight smack down mother nature gave us a couple of days ago. but this session was done on the first snowfall of the year a week and a half ago. as the flakes were falling, I was sitting in my office when the thought occurred to me that I wanted to get out there and shoot – but what? who? there was only an hour and a half of daylight left. sure the dogs were an option, but I have tons of “dogs in the snow” photos.  suddenly the gordy girls popped in my head. they live right in town and are 2 of the cutest little ladies I know. so I texted their mom christina to see if they were home and did they all want to come out and play – luckily they were and they did & we had so much fun!

I couldn’t have styled this session any better even if I had days to prepare – the hats are perfect perfect perfect – and christina & her daughters are just beautiful

I almost forgot my log-in because it’s been so long since I blogged. although I say it with much gratitude, it’s been a crazy holiday season. card, print and album orders exceeded those of any year before and we’ve been up to our ears – we’ve also been meeting with a lot of our amazing 2011 clients so our blogging fell by the wayside. but we’re back and hoping to blog at least 3 times a week from now on. Jordon’s blogpost is one of those that I’ve been meaning to do for about 2 weeks now and just never got around to doing so I made some coffee, turned off the phone and am getting it done because I loved working with jordan. although certainly not by choice, it’s been pointed out to me that most of my senior portraits are of girls and I think that had jordan a little bit nervous when we sat down to talk about his session. I assured him that while yes, it had been mostly by senior girls that the studio had been hired I was fairly confident that we would have a cool session. and it was! we did part one on the fields of snow hill high where jordan plays both soccer and football and then part 2 was at the beach on assateague. by looking at the photos you would think that the beach shots were taken in late august or early fall – but you’d be wrong. these were taken a little over a month ago and it was freezing! kathy (jordan’s mom) and I were in uggs, sweatshirts and coats while jordan was a pro in a t-shirt, SHORTS and flip-flops. I was amazed!

part 2 of taylor’s senior photos! it took a few tries before getting the right location and day for the second part of taylor’s senior session. either the day was rainy or we couldn’t find a good place with soccer nets – but all came together on a wednesday afternoon. although is was definitely chilly, the light was great and taylor was ready to get moving with her soccer gear – probably in an attempt to get warm :)

I know I should – but I’ve never been one to submit my weddings to many blogs or magazines. I’d like to say it’s due to lack of time but really (and secretly… until now) it’s fear of rejection. we pour our hearts and souls into our weddings and sessions so I think if I heard “nice try, but I don’t think so” I would just about die. and we really don’t shoot for anyone but us and our clients. if our couples have some killer details – yes I’m going to shoot them but I won’t fill their blogpost with image after image of centerpieces and table cards – I’d rather showcase my couple and what makes them special. having said all that – when someone approaches me and is interested in showcasing our work – well I am as giddy as a school girl. such is the case when I got an email from nole, co-creator of united with love blog. this blog is new, fresh and amazing. and what I really love about it is that it features not only details and DIYs but e-sessions, traditional weddings, contemporary weddings, alternative ceremonies - everything wild and wonderful about our business in the mid-atlantic area. she contacted me specifically about christine & bill’s wedding from late october and it was posted on their site yesterday. I just have to say thank you thank you thank you! thank you for recognizing how amazing christine and bill are as well as all of their amazing vendors who made their day spectacular. and now that I know “you like me, you really like me!” I may just have to start submitting more!

I love fall weddings! the colors and the crisp air – it all is just so romantic to me. add an amazing couple and location and it’s just perfection. I met up with heather at the shipwatch B&B where she was finishing up her hair and make-up. she was simply stunning and I was not surprised. heather’s sense of style was apparent during their e-session and on her wedding day she was that X 1,000. we then went to the church which was the quaintest I have been to this season. the size, alter, windows – all were just so intimate and lovely for a wedding. and then it was off to the reception at the chesapeake ballroom where I had never shot before. I really hope to have the opportunity to work another wedding there – so beautiful!
