now this session was a long time coming! mother nature and conflicting schedules had us wondering if we would ever get this done. but as fate would have it, mom christal contacted me about 2 weeks ago and we were free at the same time – and the sun stayed out!! so I met up with the family on a sunday afternoon at assateague. I knew dad doug through working with him on several occasions but hadn’t met christal or their adorable girls emma & chloe before our shoot. as soon as I saw christal changing them into these amazing dresses, I was excited! we started on bayside where is was a bit breezy & bright but we had fun and got some great shots!

041

this just makes me smile ear to ear

050

I just love this shot  – it reminds me of how excited I was as a kid everytime we went to the beach

1162

now emma LOVES the ocean! she went running for it as soon as we were done bayside – but chloe on the other hand is a bit afraid of it – so we attempted a few shots of the whole family by the water but once a big wave crashed, chloe ran up the beach toward the dunes and sat at what she felt was a safe distance away. I followed her and got some of  my favorite photos of the day

052

in an attempt to negate chloe’s fear of being close to the surf, I asked everyone to make a funny face – the funniest of which I think is chloe’s  – it just says “I don’t know these people” :)

love this mother/daughter shot

I can’t seem to shoot at the beach without getting some sandy toes photos!

I had a wonderful evening with you guys – it was so much fun and I always love a reason to get my toes in the ocean – just like emma!

I met whitney and anthony when they won an engagement session from me at the delaware bride wedding show. I was so excited when they decided to hire me to shoot their wedding after we worked together on their e-session. they both have worked at baywoods and that’s where the ceremony was – it is such a beautiful location and the flowers around the ceremony site were like they had been custom planted in whitney’s color scheme – amazing! such a beautiful day

0151

058

doesn’t whitney look gorgeous?

099

this bridge is probably one of my favorite things about baywoods

dapper dudes!

149

I just love the serene look on both of their faces

201

the reception was held at pot-nets and it was my first time shooting there – I really liked it! lots of windows and a neat circular ballroom

whitney & anthony, I’m so glad that my name was drawn out of the prize box just for you at the wedding show – I’ve had so much fun working with you and getting to know you both! I wish you much love and happiness together!

when april first shared with me the details of her wedding to frankie, I knew that it was going to be an afternoon of tradition, family and love. it was very important to both of them that their cultures and love be celebrated jointly and fully. so when I met up with april at the poplar hill mansion, I wasn’t surprised to see her family buzzing about happily pulling everything together!

it was a beautiful afternoon for a garden wedding

065

I love april’s expression shortly after they said “i do”!

1161

we went to the city park for some photos afterward and they had the best time, even jumping in a paddle boat – but I have to say that the fountain was my favorite!

congratulations april & frankie! I wish you much love and laughter!!

annette was referred to us by our amazing friends and clients jenni & tim perunko. when I first met with annette, I knew that the wedding she and carter were planning would be one of love, family & fun. I met up with annette at the fountains where she was getting ready and where the reception was to be held (it was also the backup location for the ceremony in case of rain which was threatened all day)

011

024

fortunately the rain held off until the reception and they were able to have the ceremony at the stunning home of carter’s parents. it was a seriously beautiful location with a sloping walkway down to the  river where I was able to do some photos with carter & annette separately as they didn’t want to see each other before the wedding

054

091

these flower girls were some of my favorite ever – they were so excited about the wedding and let me snap away at their overflowing cuteness!

161

amazing work by the city florist as usual

253

I think one of the things I loved most about this location was it’s versatility – anywhere I chose to shoot from was gorgeous – add a great couple and I’m in heaven!

I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating. I LOVE my clients!! I especially love when I am able to document my couple’s lives from their wedding day to their pregnancy to their growing family. erika & josh are a perfect example – I shot their wedding a few years back and once they learned they were having a baby, erika excitedly came into the palette to share their big news. while we didn’t get an opportunity to do a maternity session, I photographed them last year when their daughter hayden was aboout a year old. so obviously I was really excited when they contacted me again this year to do a beach shoot.

012

017

055

hayden loved dipping her toes in the ocean!

035

046

easily one of my favorite mother/daughter photos ever – it’s just so serene to me

072

027

love me some sandy baby feet – cutest thing!

089

061

083

because of schedules and weather, we ended up shooting the session on my birthday. so after we were done, erika and josh asked me to follow them back to their house where they had a CAKE for me – how cool is that?!?!  I can’t wait for the next session with your wonderful family – hopefully a maternity session is in our near future :)

so vacations are pretty few and far between around here – especially as wedding season is gearing up! but if I’ve learned anything, it’s that it is a necessity to take some time for yourself with people you love – and I love my hubs! this is our third year going to ocracoke in early june. our anniversary is june 4th and this year we celebrated 5 years. ocracoke and the outer banks in general is just a great place to get away from it all. not that far of a drive, you feel miles away from everything, especially on ocracoke. when we go, we throw our bikes in the back of the truck and once we get on the island, we don’t get back in the truck til it’s time to go. I seem to immediately relax as soon as we board the ferry and I needed it – bad! while I am so very grateful for the way gillette portrait arts is growing and thriving, I needed a recharge and some downtime with roland – and we got it. we stayed at the crews inn b & b which I HIGHLY recommend to anyone traveling to ocracoke. it’s a beautiful home smack in the center of town but it’s SO quiet and peaceful. nothing has locks, not even the guest rooms which I kinda loved and the innkeepers couldn’t have been nicer as well as our fellows guests. many an afternoon were spent on the wrap around porches meeting new people and drinking lemonade. for better or worse, I don’t shoot much when I’m on vacation. it’s one of my goals this year, to document our lives as much I do for other people and I did, but not a lot. to be honest, when I’m on a break, sometimes I’d rather be holding a book than a camera

we went to go dip our toes in the ocean one last time right before we boarded the ferry and roland said we don’t have a photo of us this trip – oh yeah…. a picture of both of us – what a conccept! so a nice guy with a very cool dog snapped this one – gotta love the squinty eyes!

heather contacted me about 3 weeks before her & ryan’s wedding. she found us online and just wanted a couple hours of coverage because she was having an intimate ceremony on a sailboat. although they live in massachusetts, heather’s parents have a beautiful home on the water in cambridge and that’s where I met up with them

 097

034

heather and her girls!

086

love this shot!

059

then we were off to the boat – we made a stop on the way and it was a fun location. sometimes I get a little nervous when I walk into a wedding having never met the couple – but heather and ryan were so easy and fun to work with!

1311

152

I thought heather was just gorgeous – just so simple – no veil, no updo – just her and so stunning!

156

ryan wasn’t too shabby either!

140

let me tell you – it was SO hot – really steamy and I’m sure it was much better once they took sail, but the whole group was so great and really excited to be a part of heather & ryan’s day

I wish I had all day with you guys – you and your families were so much fun and I know that your life together will be full of the same love and laughter! congratulations!

laura & ryan got married on a beautiful day at the mansion at valley country club. I had met them both when I photographed her sister katie’s wedding. so I was really excited when laura called me after she got engaged. I love being able to participate in weddings where I already know the families – it’s a neat reunion on wedding day! laura got ready at her parent’s beautiful home in bel air

010

018

how beautiful are these flowers?!

038

laura you look amazing!

ryan’s brother dan was his best man and for his toast a slideshow was presented. easily the most moving and emotional toast I’ve ever seen

271

272

273

laura’s sister katie had some tears flowing too. as much as I love the funny toasts, the really heartfelt words from one person to another always gets me

I knew sarah & drew were a special couple when I photographed their e-session - the love they have for each other just radiated from them and I was so excited for their wedding day! we had a beautiful day and the excitement was contagious. all of sarah’s bridesmaids were buzzing about, helping her get ready and working out last minute details – the only snag was that it was cruiser weekend over at the beach, so traffic was heavy to say the least – but once we got there, the church was packed with friends and family waiting for sarah & drew to say their long-awaited vows. this couple is beautiful inside and out and I had so much fun photographing their big day!

okay.. so this next photo has to one of my favorite photos EVER. the cool thing is that sarah is also a photographer, so after I got this shot I ran up to her and said “LOVED that!” and she said “I knew you would!” :)

239a

the whole wedding party was on board to do anything sarah or I wanted them to do which is amazing with a group this big – they were all so great!

another moment perhaps only another photographer would appreciate and participate with enthusiasm. I saw this performance artist down the boardwalk and as we approached her, in full statue stillness – we wondered if she would play along.  as soon as she saw sarah, she broke character and couldn’t help from smiling. unfortunately she didn’t tell us her name – but thanks silver bride artist lady!

351a

sarah & drew – I had so much fun working with you. you, your friends and family were all so much fun to spend the day with and I know that your life together will be filled with much laughter and love – congratulations!
