I had been looking forward to this wedding ever since melissa & mike’s e-session – I had soooo much fun with them then and I knew I would again on their wedding day. when I woke up that morning I was a bit dismayed – it was cloudy and crappy and the wedding was being held by the river at shad landing. so I got to melissa’s house and was so relieved that she didn’t have a care in the world! she was as excited as if it were perfect weather – she had even sent a post out on facebook that morning that she and mike were getting married “rain or shine” :) some brides would have been completely freaked out – but melissa just rolled with it which made me love her even more! oh yeah…. did I mention that her wedding dress was orange?! LOVE!!!

jamie was referred to gillette portrait arts by my parkside senior rep alexa – we had such a great time going to different locations around town. jamie was a natural – she’s got such a wonderful smile and contagious energy! we had a few locations where we had to battle the wind – but the next day it was a rainy mess so we lucked out!

I was excited for brandi & will’s wedding from the first day I met brandi! we met up at her home which is also located at the wedding/reception location. It’s an area called clipper mill and it’s beyond cool – beyond….. it’s basically several blocks of old foundries and industrial buildings that have been converted to galleries, restaurants, artist space and contemporary living. they got married in an area known as the back yard surrounded by high trees and a creek & then had the reception around the most beautiful pool I’ve ever seen. so just location alone had me stoked –  but then when I shot their e-session, I fell in love with them – they are just such a cool and laid back couple who are very obviously over the moon for each other. all of these elements together made for one of my favorite weddings ever!

mary sarah gave me a call a few weeks back wanting to do an e-session. she and brent are getting married next year in western maryland but they wanted to do their engagement photos down on the shore. brent is from philly – holla! and mary sarah goes to school at salisbury university. I had a chance to meet them briefly at a wedding show at the fountains and we got together in berlin later that afternoon. Immediately I could see that they had great energy and chemistry – after berlin, we headed to assateague as the sun was setting…. even getting a small scolding from a ranger for entering the park so close to closing :)

kathleen contacted me about a month and a half ago about doing an e-session – she and ray had gotten engaged about 2 weeks before she emailed. we picked a couple of days to shoot and then decided on a sunday – with just one hitch…. we needed to get together early so that ray had the afternoon available for football – a man after my own heart!! so we met in snow hill bright and early on a gorgeous morning and headed to assateague. these two were SO much fun to shoot!! at first I had to get used to the idea that when kathleen said “ray” that she wasn’t talking to me :) but they are so playful and affectionate with each other! plus I was loving the dress kathleen brought with her  – it was a great color and moved so nice in the wind

meet allison – not only is she my stephen decatur senior portrait rep, she’s also my cousin! Even though we only live 20 minutes away from each other, we don’t get to see each other very often - so I was excited that we would have the opportunity to spend the afternoon together for this shoot. We decided to hit the boardwalk and ended up at the rides – which to be honest was a little spooky all quiet and empty  – but made for cool backdrops! then we headed to the pier with some of the nicest light I’ve had in awhile

I’ve said it before, but it certainly is worth repeating. I love my job – for many many reasons – but most of all, it’s the relationships that I’ve formed over the years that I cherish most of all. Hannah and her family are a prime example. Her parents – stephanie & jeff got married a week before my husband and I did and kristie and I did the photography. jeff had made this beautiful arbor for the wedding and while we were doing portraits of just the two of them, I kept commenting on how pretty it was and suddenly jeff asked me if I had my “something borrowed” yet for my wedding. I was confused for a moment and said that I didn’t think I did. so he said – well, now you do! and he and steph drove the arbor down to snow hill for our wedding – how cool is that!?!?! so we’ve all been friends ever since. when steph found out she was pregnant, they came down to assateague for a maternity shoot and then I went to cambridge when hannah was one for a shoot in their garden. This wonderful friendship started with a phone call inquiring about wedding photography. there are not many other professions where you’re invited into the most special events of a family’s life and I feel so blessed to do what I do!

unfortunately, jeff was under the weather on this day – but hannah and steph had so much fun playing on the beach. I love this next shot because hannah looks like she is contimplating the vastness of the ocean

this last shot is easily my favorite of the day – lots of mother-daughter love!

I had such a great afternoon – hannah is such a cool little girl! after she had gotten wet in the ocean she kept saying “mommy, I need dry pants” – then she’d forget about it but then would repeat it, forget, repeat, etc. I was cracking up! I can’t wait for year number three – love you guys!

I was really excited to photograph brittany & josh’s wedding. Not only because they were getting married in my town, but we had a great e-session together and I knew that they were saving their first kiss ever for their wedding day! I also knew of some of brittany’s design ideas because the palette was catering the event. Although we were threatened with rain over the course of the day – all was well and was kept outside – the day was emotional, intimate and beautiful! brittany was also one of the first brides I’ve shot in a long time that wore a bridcage veil – LOVE IT!

005

I love this moment between sisters – and you may recognize the “lady in red” – she is melissa whose e-session I posted a few weeks back and her wedding to mike is in a week!

whitney and anthony have to be two of the sweetest people I’ve ever met! whitney won an engagement session at the delaware today bridal show earlier this year and they decided that they wanted to use gillette portrait arts for their wedding day as well – which I was so happy about! they are getting married at baywood greens country club which is where I met them for the beginning of our shoot. the day was beautiful and warm and because anthony works at baywood greens, they knew exactly where their special spots were!
